If you can get the book figopedia by jeremie teboul and a book called "color theory" by Betty Edwards. Itl get you thinking anylitically and probably clear up those things that painting bruddah with Ben komets doesn't answer!!!

I've been making my way through your WIP thread and I absolutely love how you did the Bloodreavers. They are my favorite to paint so far. I noticed in one of your posts that you talk about the book and how it changed your painting style. Does it talk about painting flesh as you did on those Bloodreavers? I really want to do those Miniatures justice and flesh is a big part of it. I hated how my first attempt at it went.

Thanks for all your advice. It's very much appreciated!

The book figopedia is more like how you approach a model.where the highlights /shades fall,how and where to apply intermediate shades and things like that.there is ,in the second half of the book,however a section on color theory . Now if you're interested in how and what I've used for my blood reavers I used a recipe that David powel (baily03) uses only when it came to my shading I went down to deep blue which is beyond the chestnut deep shade he talks about using.look at his w I p and you'll find in there his recipe.it really is a very attractive one.

I definitely think those hammer bros. are the worst models of GS bunch, but you're doing great work with them. The skin tones are great, especially on the abdomen, light going into shadow, lovely.

Thanks canny a really great painter once told me to go up to white!!!! (You canny) and I've messed up manny models but now I see what you and ten balleant by hitting it with a contrast hammer!!!

Wanted to thank you, BAM. I looked up Betty Edwards' book and ordered that one, too. It seems both those books have the answers to many of my "color" questions. A million thanks, good sir.

Anytime model bldr!!! That's what I rely on when I compete with my entries . I'm not much of a freehand guy with the exception of decal work. I mainly rely on proper colors ,this includes shading and highlighting, and highlight and shadow placement. These gene stealer abominations with have some accenting on certain parts of the models and if I'm bold enough i may try to include some blighted squiggly vein work, but other than that its really the color choice and the contrast of the shadow/highlighting that I'm always practicing and always looking to master. Well my good friend, its a pleasure to see your work and Im humbled. It does take time to understand the contrast hammer but once you do its a revelation. Awesome work loving the brass colour weapons too, (hint to others check your colour wheels, oposite of blue?).

Paint on buddy.
