View attachment 31641Just getting the sizing of the rod and the plinth. This time a round plinth presents the or ulnar parts of the model better than the square like I did with the undead king. Even the proper into is taken into acct.
Stay tuned folks.

View attachment 31689Aaaah now this is more like my comfort zone. Follow me on a journey of acrylics and glaze medium as I give life to one of my favorite characters to paint . An ork... I don't think I've ever painted one of these... :/. Really now.

BaM- I just have to say 1000 apologies mate. Every once in awhile I accidentally unsubscribe from a thread on accident. So I haven't been getting any of your updates in weeks! You probably are like WTF happened to BFK? But I was wondering about you today, thinking that this guy is normally a machine and I haven't seen updates in awhile. So without further ado, I have reviewed the last ten pages I missed and here are my overall thoughts.

First, incredible that you're both getting published in WD and have been so successful on P&P. One jealous dude right here. That is amazing though bro. I really think you need to be a studio painter for some up and coming companies ( more on this later when I bring up something I've noticed about your style).

Your last projects have been very good. I think I left off with Nagash. So the Nurgle squad, while not my style, suited yours very very well. But what got me the most was that pirate. Holy hell man. I think this is better than your undead bust. Seriously it is remarkably done. If it's not scoring in the 9.5 or greater well then you're getting robbed. I'll have to check.

So when you showed that elf something about your work struck me. And it's that you are really such a versatile painter but you rarely show it. Meaning you mainly stick to rods or other dirty beastly types with nice metals and even better weathering. Nothing wrong with this at all, it's your trademark and it's made you super successful. Top 100 painters in the world. Without a doubt. But look what happened when you did a bust. It's perhaps your best piece. Then another bust comes out crazy good. Your clean elf came out immaculately good. Who knew you could do them so well? What I am trying to say is that I think you should venture into some unknown territory. Paint some Steampunk maybe. I think your skills would be PERFECT for this. Some cyborg Victorian inspector with soot weathering from his steam engine or whatever. Even a dragon or a demon from you. Just to show how incredible your skills are. What I am trying to say is that you aren't just good at a few things. No sir. You are good at all things, and the world needs to be blessed with a more diverse range of figures from you. A historical or two from you. More busts. Steampunk. And lastly, some super bases or dioramas. Sure, you might make some mistakes along the way, but I think such a daring quest to grow as a painter wold catapult you into the top 10 in the world.

Id is love to collaborate on a duel piece with you. Chaos dwarf vs dwarf? Orc vs Empire? Or maybe a fair take theme. Alice vs the Queen? Hansel vs Gretel? Think on this, I'd love to collaborate with such as you!!!

Please PM me about a question I have. Wondering how you did the skin for Goliath. It's probly been forever but if you can remember how you did it, it'd help me. Haven't decided if I want to do a gray, half dead look or a normal skin tone.

Anyway, cheers. Hope I didn't put u to sleep.

was wondering bud.. just thought you were busy. Lol no biggie m8 I know your always around ..thank you so much for all the passionate comments it's always great and self satisfying to see your work as well and hear your thoughts. I must say I'm extremely flattered about how you feel my work is. There is NOTHING MORE SAtifying than to have a very adept budding artist feel great feelings towards another's work. OK so I'll be looking for smart max and I think your right about the bust I really enjoyed painting it.

Now I still can't believe you like the goliath I did. Okay so lucky for everybody I keep a log book..lol well goliath recipes are in my 3rd log book ..yep a very conscientious painter I've a bad memory so I write everything down. But we could do this one of two ways. We could both do a paint along you doing goliath and me doing his brother sigfried and I can take you through it that way you can decide as we're doing so to copy or/change nuances here and there. Or I could give you the recipe to do with as is..if you'd like to do a paint along Ide be honored to have you by my side as we bring to life two of Stephen Simons greatest works. I will be going to my library and dig up my log book volume 3. Until later on today think bout what you want .. cheers buddy it's good to hear from you always.

Wanna know the funny thing when I saw you doing the frozen khorne lord and then the dark elf I was the jealous one. But in a benevolent way I would say dag nabbit how the heck does he know how to paint like this. So i started painting more and every piece Ide comare it to is it better than bfok nobody else just bfok cause he's made the greatest improvement in a small amount of time. So don't sell yourself short I was and still am a jealous sort. It's kinda hard not to be your already a high 8 and 9+average display painter I think your the one who'll be I the top ten. I guess you met singularity (nick) he's such a great guy man. He catches alot of garbage on Cmon and he's so good people need to vote honest , but it's the nature of the beast on Cmon best you can do is surround yourself by cyber friends and roll the dice and not crap out.I'll hit you up later with the recipe bud.;)

I really like the colors on the skin. What are you doing with the finish on the skin? The shoulder looks matte to satin but the face looks glossy. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I think the glossy effect is working. Sort of like he's drenched with sweat from all that hard pirating he's been doing. The trick is to make sure it looks intentional and not just a byproduct of the paint. So if you plan to keep it that way I'd make sure the eye patch and cloth have a very matte finish.

Ahh here's what we do the first off I'm going to finish this bust I'm doing so maybe by Monday of next week . Now about me finishing early well do it this way any time your ready each day each week I don't care if it's 2 pm by you and 3 am here just shoot me a email telling me your starting a sit down session I have a ton of free time so let's say for argument sake your ready to sit down Tues at 4 pm just shoot me email and tell me what part you want to work on and bam when you start I'll start when you finish I'll finish. Bringing us to stay at 1 speed . As for the recipe I start all minis with a m our fang brown coat it works the colors keeping them a Lil warmer then for the skin it's as bestigor flesh /cadiain flesh tone and reikland flesh then either ushabit bone (warm hI glints or rackarth flesh cool highlights ) I'm going to see the warm. That's what I used on goliath now the steps I apply (you'll also need leviathan purple/Reiko and flesh shade a gray earth's hade LAHMIAN medium and way watcher green glaze.
Step1) I start with cadianflesh tone
2) riekland flesh shade mixed with bestigor 1:1 really thinned glaze of it I apply it all over liberally then another glaze of it not so thinned or thinned less
3) in the recesses and underside add leviathan purple
4) just leviathan purple with LAHMIAN again these are all glazes some are just not as thinned where I've stated
5) 1st highlight is cabin plus bestigore flesh in a thinned consistency and I'll apply it on al, areas light hits the most lit are the ones that form a horizontal lever (eg if I hold my arm str8 out the top of my whole arm (horizontal lever) is where light hits the most, but this you know so onward
Then once a bunch of layers start to intensify only then do I move to the cabin flesh tone by itself used still as a highlight glaze (not as thinned as the shadow glazes but nto as thick as wash either (feel it ou) after many layers I'll move to the cabin plus killed again covering less and less area as we know like a rooftop shingles overlap but most of the original shingle is left. Then to kislev the to kislev flesh and ushabit bone
Then us habit bone on the tippy tops some light points then I'll take a really watered down basically the thinnest of glazes like tinted water of agrax earth's hade over the whole flesh areas
After that I choose random parats and I'll glaze with a couple of cars of way watcher green for eggs if you look at my goliath his left shoulder (our right) there is a patch of green. And I do the same with ball red maybe on the other shoulder maybe bottom of a PEC muscle.there is what I remember but also you can do it anyway you see fit those are the colors you might use more or less purples etc etc . Any ? S I'm here bud. This will be a blas.
