CC that is another primary reason I don’t and probably won’t do it . Now don’t think for one minute my style is always a gamble in comps simply beacause of pros using the very well to photograph NMM. That’s the bottom line. The only way to combat folks like that is the weathering I use on each model and how it is strategically placed to add realism. In a world where currently 1000s can blend properly and 100s have mastered NMM I offer something extremely different from this norm. That combined with uppping my basing and color use/ choice is what I know I can do. So it either is going to be a hit or it isn’t going to stand up to the Matt chewischs Etc.

Very smart strategy BaM. Why place yourself in a pool of dozens of competitors when you can set yourself apart.

And the techniques you’ve used are your own and you’ve managed to carve out a personal style that can clearly be attributed to you. This is why you get articles in Figure Painter and White Dwarf

Although I’m a strong competitor I want to show you guys that there are Americans as dangerous as dangerous at crystal brush than anywhere else. Everybody knows I’m strong at units but if like I say the top 5 Americans show up( past multi sword winners an all else and that’s not counting above that number never which I can guarantee the top 20 or 30 can and might. And if these top 5 enter every category than no bust has a shot. Let’s take Tom ales for example he’s as good at any British , German painter anywhere when it comes to his technique, freehand, modeling etc. here’s his gold winning hoplite unit from the 2015 crystal brush awards.View attachment 63748ok so even my best unit of blood bowlers currently I feel would not stand a chance.just look at that smoothness and look at that freshens.View attachment 63748

I wonder if Tom will compete this year. He was at Adepticon last year but didn't enter the Crystal Brush, hopefully that was just a one time thing.

But yeah, plenty of great American talent that always shows up and brings the A-game. Matt DiPietro, just got best in show at LVO, Aaron Lovejoy, Sam Lenz, Jessica Rich, Kat (Sionid), Anthony Wang. All former CB winners who have shown they can compete with the best Europe has to offer. And Let's not forget multiple CB and Golden Demon winner John Margiotta! You've made quite the name for yourself, and people are gunning for you too.

Derek I’m literally walking on air from a young chap that started competing 4 years ago and really had jumped right in with the rest of the greater painters NOT to sleep on (you bud) that has made my day cause honestly i wasn’t even thinking about it that way. Your the best and always a “honor” and a nail biter competing along side you matey!!!;) truth be told!!!

Really awesome, the eyes should be looking in different directions to make the effect even more awesome!

Now you tell him! Haha.

Nurgle dude is looking great buddy. I thought about pushing for some really strong verdigris effects on that shield (I love verdigris) but after thinking about it I think it’d clash with the dark turquoise armour. Basically, I’m saying carry on doing exactly what you’re doing!

And I have faith in the BB team. They’re superb

Hahahhaha what I did was had all the eyes look in his direction and his heads turned looking at them- like their communicating !!! See more than one way to skin a fat cat;)
and fix yes there will be sparingly verdigris once I do some wathering the turquoise will be barely noticeable. So your right it will tie it in to the other verdigris I have el planno!!!
;););)

Well I didn't want it to come to this John but you leave me no choice. I shall have to enter CB and establish my dominion over all painters. I know I know, don't cower in fear, I shall only enter one category, but it will be so awesome it will win all categories. Still, the best of luck to you.

Ok this is the last update for the nighty night

I’ve put to pics to show my thought process eyes should def be in many directions . However in this case I’ve stuck to a more interacting idea based on his head looking off to an enemy (who knows) but you can see his head and eyes are fixed in a same direction. Both basically fixed on what ever in gods name he’s looking at. So now we don’t know what they are sizing up what we do know is that they both are seeing it.;)
fox your right on the money analogy of the verdigris will tie in this shield to the bells and that knife thingie on his shoulder. In addition to this the metal showing underneath minimises the dark tortoise green we see befor the weathering. But great points the both of you;)

That Corgi needs more weathering....Lord of Blights is looking spot on....need to get me some of that action. Eyeballs are a great touch and the bronze shoulder blade looks sweet.
