you can't beat it mate, it makes everything look alive. I ain't a huge fan of the comic book style painting although I do admire artists that can really pull it off well but to me a mini is suppose to be depicted for the environment its supposed to live in, and in the case of 40K in the middle of a bloody battlefield and they ain't actually gonna sit down in the first and polish their boots ha.

Next year after I've painted tons of nurgle and Orks with a few side projects thrown in I'll try something a little more challenging like a bust

I think the blood on the dead's guy face is to flashy, especially on the nose, apart that nothing to report except the same awesomeness then usual :)
Might be because you when str8 red on white skin, maybe with a darker "spatter under coat", I don't know maybe in real it's not so red.

Oh almost forgot, the dead guy's eyes looks too alive.

This is an old photo since this pic was taken I've taken care of a few things the shading in the face to have contrast against the severed head and the blood has been darkened as per teronus masterful eyes wasn't sure but I'm glad he said it it was bothering me and didn't know if I should or shouldn't so I'm glad he said something everything else seems good so far to me. Tonight ill put up a real photo with my girl.until then here's a shot of the whole group all are 54 mm but it looks even more realistic as they are slight differences making them look like a naturalistic rain ding party. Very realistic.View attachment 35561

Coming along great I like the bases, nice inspiration, however waiting for clearer pictures of the second guy I might have spotted something.

Maybe Cedric could look at the other guy running with the head. Like "&^$%$ man we won is this *&%^&% necessary"

Looking good! You know, if you say the gladiator is part of Spartacus's revolt, you've got the start of a whole enemies of Rome series.

Ha, well I've done some teaching in the past and hopefully quite a bit more in the future (though science, not history). But, in general, when I work on historical figures I like to read up on them and learn about the subject. And I've always been interested in ancient history, especially Rome and Greece. So much cool stuff: the Persian invasion of Greece, battles of Marathon, Thermopylae, and Salamis, the Peloponnesian war, the campaigns of Alexander the Great, the Punic Wars and Hannibal, the slow fall of the Roman Republic from the Gracchi to Ceasar, the emperors, and the eventual fall of the Roman Empire. By the way, if you want to read some cool history, get a copy of 'The Landmark Arrian - The Campaigns of Alexander.' It was written around 100 AD by Arrian, several hundred years after Alexander but based largely around the accounts of Ptolemy, one of Alexander's key generals and ancestor of Cleopatra (though his work did not survive to modern times). The Landmark Arrian is a great translation, easy to read and full of lots of supplementary detail, maps, and photos. They also did a version of Thucydides history of the Peloponnesian War, though I think Arrian is a more interesting read.

Okay, back to the painting. The third one is moving right along. The metals and chain mail look really good. I look forward to seeing these all in person at Adepticon.
