Okay so after the (FIELDARCHY) seminar with meg maples I learned alot! Answers to questions that I've been pondering that can only be answered through a formal structured seminar. My greates asset is now to practice the crap out of 2 brush blending . It took mrs maples 6minths at 8 hours a day to learn this technique to keep privateer press paintjobs consistant with the for painters boxset. She explained it is like learning to paint all over again. So it takes time. But listen folks becoming crippled and disabled , time is all I have. So here is my first model since her class I've done the fkesh(with 2 brush blending) once I master this I have no doubts that I will be able to wow the judges at crystal brush. View attachment 32191View attachment 32192View attachment 32193View attachment 32194View attachment 32195Just a brief display of my new modelling ideas and the difference 1 seminar can make with formal structured lessons. The old me in the left with Goliath and a new painting on the right with no washes purely 2 brush blending . It actually is much faster than layering a bunch of countless coats over and over. You can see the difference and in 6 months (hopefully sooner ) ill have mastered this basic but significantly better technique.
and trying as well to get my basing and modelling up as well. Meg maples is an amazing artist an outstanding teacher and a wonderful human being. Her seminar was "life changing"!

Good to hear you are trying out new things, my friend. Especially one such as yourself who has been successful doing things a set way for so many years. Best of luck to you with this new technique! My personal opinion of it is that it's a good way to get great results in a fast amount of time. But to me, layering is just the preferred way. That's not to say that we all don't use the basis of 2 brush blending, which is just skill at feathering. I've always wanted to try it tho just because it looks like a lot of fun.

Your results are great for your first time around. Especially the metallics. The skin is a bit thick in places with the shadow pigments, but nothing you won't steamroll over in a short time.

Those are some hefty barbarians. The bases works so well with them, turning them into mini diorama's. I especially like the uneven brick work.

Yeah both styles look to be effective for you and those barbarian are luscious. Great skin tones you have going. I have always believed that any day you learn something new is a great day, so good for you on the painting seminar.

And i am worried that when you master the speed of two brush blending that you will be knocking out a squad of minis at display level every day. Lol. :D

Getting to the finish line. The 2 brush blending with extreme contrast is something I'm really liking but because I'm knew to it this mini would be normally finished but unless I practice it 8 hours a day for the next six months I can't master this. So time to keep an open mind and take 6 steps back for 20 steps forward. But either way I already have masterd my old techniques do one more will be more than welcome in my ever growing "time of miniature painting techniques and recipes. You can see off to the left the knew chaos spute grumgut or whatever cheesey name they call him. Yes ready to keep the practice going and all this and a knew book on color theory and bang heavy gains coming soon. Stay tuned folks.

That base IS coming out lovely my dude. Keep it up.

Hey I'm not sure if you're familiar with the work of Olivier Bouchet, but he recently sculpted this guy. He will have it shipped to the US for 31 Euros. 54mm so it will be my first painting of that size. The casting will be done in Mid-November and will ship immediately. Can't wait. Anyway though of you when I saw it because I know you like to do the exclusive sculpts like me. It's from his personal range but he sculpts for Mierce and all kinds of companies.

Very familiar with mr Boucher. I never had the pleasure . I def will be getting a couple. I happen to love 54 mm models. Their larger size lends themselves nicely to all sorts of technical tricks. I think after that you'll be hooked. Mid November well I'm getting me a couple if those baddies. Great tip. In on it Holmes! Nice lookin out Benny boy.
