Can't tell you krule how valuable that is as artists like everyone we get what I call painting hypnosis where all looks ok.. At that point we need a fresh set of eyes to derail any problems we've had no knowledge of at first glance . So I. Suncerly thank you for that vlauable set of peepers!

Oh, I still feel like a painting amateur most of the time. There are so many great artists on this site doing things I can't begin to pull off (the NMM work by 10 and Andy, the crazy details Skel does, just about anything Sproket touches, the list goes on). I just stand out because I do historical figures and 54mm+ while most people do fantasy/sci-fi and 28-32mm figures.

I agree, it's really helpful to get feedback from everyone on here. You stare at a piece long enough and you start to think, well sure, that's how it's supposed to be. Sometimes just be posting pictures I'll notice stuff in my own work that needs to be redone.

I am still a kid when I see all the great stuff ppl have here including yours of course! Nice miniatures that makes my heart go fast and my jaw to drop down to the floor is what fuels me to make nicer miniatures all the time. Then of course there are the diff styles like you mentioned, everybody got their personal touch, I myself decided to pursue in TMM because I am just nuts about shinny metals, since my first mini in 1984 until today I am just crazy about metals. So I am glad that there are not to many ppl who do the same ;) But like I read somewhere last page I think that the top factor is still the "eye candy factor" that is prominent "skill" in my mind you need. The amazed kid inside us, the dream factor. Ok a piece can have like super high technical painting job that blow you mind but it's the "eye candy factor" and the dream factor that comes first I think, well that is my 2 cent and that is how I paint my minis, If what I do don't drop my own jaw and doesn't make me dream like a kid then I know it wont do that to others as well. That's why your avatar piece is so great, it makes us dream :)

3 more hrs so far today .. Intensified the weathering on the leather cape, legging , scabbard etc.. It's important from my experience of wear and tear to have random (diff sizes of scratches and diff colors) each light/ dark scratch gives a contrast to one another . This signifies a host of different structures that have marked and scratched the pants etc from steel to jagged rocks each showing a more natural and realistic host of items through the years that have marked up his leggings for example from rain to earth .. A host of different materials that have scuffed up this hardened veterans clothing!
stay tuned!!!

want to say I LOVE COOL MINI OR NOT.IF YEARS A GO YOU WOULD'VE TOLD ME I WAS NOT JUST GOING TO BE VIEWING HIGH QUALITY MODELS ,BUT THAT IDE BE REALLY GR8 FRIENDS WITH ARTIST LIKE DRAGONSREACH,BAILY,SKELLS,10 BALL ,ANDY G ...IDE HAVE SAID NO WAY.AND DEF IDE THOUGH PEOPLE WOULD BE CRAFT IF I WAS GOING TO BE CYBER PALING OUT WITH SWORD WINNING ARTISTS LIKE SPRSPROCKET and jocelyn goyette...Ide have said no freakin way...but now through the forums I've increased my skills so much to have confidence when showing a project to all these peers and have them actually like my work..it's just an amazing feeling.this and teronus will agree is a dream a fantasy that has inspired such emotions just like those when we were kids and bought our first model planes...this is dreams that come true ...and I plan to keep all my friends and supporters in my circle around for a long long time...when you meet that special girl we all have dreams about "growing old with that special person!" However ,ladies and gentlemen that same thought goes for friends ascwell.I plan on making a lifetime bond through painting with all my cyber mates.
thank you to all my favorite artists and friends who've helped me get to where I am today...

Well I have to say BAM I am not a huge fan of historicals, also I wasnt to fond of this mini either, but with your godly painting skills you lifted the vale of dislike and showed me a truly unbelievable mini. This guy is amazing...no...BANGARANG! The little worn effects on the pants are incredible and just all the details I see in him. PLUS HE HAS ARMS! Great work my friend. Can't wait to see what you do next.

Model's looking great so far, BAM. That's great idea with the different color scratches, I had never thought of it like that before. I will definitely be using this technique in the future.

Add em on with a very fine pointed thin brush...so let's say if I'm scratching uup a khaki colored leather pants/leggings whatever..that means I start with 3 any three random colored glazed so Baylor brown agrax earth's hade and finis hide two diff dark browns and a yellow brown all darker than the khaki coor..I'll thin these out to where each one is a diff consistency of water mixed in but all are still very thinned I'll apply in random"patches" along diff parts of the models leggings..maybe each one somewhere on the legs some high some middle outer so inner thigh etc..now after this muddy marks now we're ready to add scratches again I'll pick 3 diff colors doesn't matter but bleached bone me not white bestiary brown and I'll use a very light pressure hand and draw all sorts of uneven scratches up down across using each of the colors that I've picked..making it unevenly realistic comes with practice and viola weathered worn wear and tear..thanks fluisterwould try it out and if you need me to explain further I will be glad too.so is the art of weatgering.

I guess I'm kinda late to the party on this one, John.
i've spent a bit of time looking at the picture and something's not working for me, it's taken me while but I believe that the legging are what's "bugging" me. They seem too clean and even.
If you think about it these are worn into a scrap, so there should be sweat stains, grunge and a few other "grody" touches. The knees would have scruffy marks, from the ground and/or a well placed attention diversion in the squidgies, the tights would have wipe Mark from his hands and the area around the calves/shins would have mud dirt transfer.
Just a couple of things to consider.

oh and if you go historical and it's not parade ground, consider that soldiers usually only had one set of field uniform, no modern detergent and No Toilet Paper..........Eeeuuw! Pass me another Leaf this one's split!

As someone who once went over 100 days without a shower or modern laundry in the summer, in Baghdad, I can tell you that yes, his leggings would actually be pretty gnarly. Actually, we would get these very weird white streaks on our
clothes after sweating excessively. Turned out it was the salt from our sweat. Not saying this guy needs it, but I'd actually break out the stipple brush and tap on a ton of colors, from ochre to green.

That said, damn good job on this one. You are a stud...

Once again the eyes of DR have caught what I didn't see from painting hypnosis. I've done more damage focusing on random parts . I need to stop here. Or else I'm going to end up with a Picasso painting on his pants. I hope I've addressed this issue. Enjoy and thanks for all the eyes out there especially papa DR! :$ he's my money mouth and a great artist. He speaks I listen.
