Yessir I AIM to please !!! Again guys I have only limited stuff in my hobby boxes. Things like my round scenic presculpted bases from model display products, pigment powders of various brown and rust, citadel and reaper paints(reaper I use mostly cause they blend so well) and p3, warhammer citadel model kit and brass etched components, decals, and a few other things like snow and mig wet and dry textured muds. Why do I stay limited why does my damage look on a space marine close to what I would paint in worn leather etc... Why .. Well this enables me to derive a signature look.a fresh new spin on models that I can claim as my own. The sccess I've had with this little equation I've semi perfected easily is of wonderful aesthetics to viewers of common hobbyist to international judges of famed mini painting comps. Just like one could pick out John blanches artwork on his models and his illustrations , I guarantee folks could pick out mine in a lineup. This is and was never planned early in but when it started to take shape I started producing better and better models. Even last year 51 of my models I posted in my gallery were invited to the cmon annual.. You all got that 51. Lolololololol in all seriousness. I say to new painters practice basics first when you have a good foundation then branch out on base work etc. in my history of model painting those who try everything at once kinda excell at a slower rate ,then those who take it in stages. Now that is not saying that you can't excel equally and with haste doing everything but in my experience do gain while steady slow. Any question feel free to ask and ill always stop at nothing until they are answerd.

Timmy boy ...a magician NEVER reveals his tricks...lolololol nah bud I cut corners if you look at the model it's very imperfect it would not make any finals never mind placing in a comp.but at a glance b/n the pop of the edge highlights and a bit of comp color contrast in the base/mini combo.it comes out to minimal work and maximum aesthetics for minimal work that yields a seemingly quality model..another thing I do is get all colors out on a 15 pot dry well pallette so then when there are all my colors pigments too I go to work...basically a Lil here a Lil tbere.u til satisfied.as I truly believe that bouncing all round the model till done

You still could implement my friend bc dazzler it really will help cause honestly I go by contest standard rules if it has a really wicked base but the model technically is lacking it kinda gets cast aside...REM first and foremost is the well painted model....Ide hate to admit it but I've just gotten into expanding my portfolio to bigger and more complex base work you can see it in my gallery that as the years progress the base work gets better all the rest of the time has been getting the technical down to acceptable standards.

I'll use this as my excuse for my very basic bases. :good: :D

But focusing on the basics is good advice. I get excited watching all the fabulously talented people around here and often try to run a marathon before I can even walk around the block. Sometimes it works (blind luck and ignorance), but most of the time I get frustrated. So I'll try to get my basic techniques right and throw in less blind luck and ignorance per model.

Now that's an A+ student already!!! ;) it'll be much faster to grow your overall skillset when done this way and I def stand behind this. View attachment 44604View attachment 44605View attachment 44604heres the finished project that I vowed to finish before my base came in.. Well I made good on that promise base came in this afternoon and these are photos of the finished model I took two total days to complete 11.5 hours and the base is nothing extraordinary yet colors and simplicity still lend themselves to an already really attractive looking model done very quickly!!! Keep painting and stay tuned here's parting shots of the base I've been talking bout from Andrea View attachment 44606View attachment 44606

Looks great, BAM. That should make a real nice base for the pirate.

ArchArad, that's definitely some good advice. I know there have been many times where I've gotten frustrated because I wanted to do more with a figure than I was capable of. On the one hand, it's good to set your sights high. If you aren't pushing yourself, that you won't improve. On the other hand, you don't want to be constantly frustrated! Just alternate your big marathon style projects with smaller ones. And, in both cases, even if you didn't achieve what you were going for, ask yourself if the figure is better than your last one. Even if you didn't achieve your original vision for the piece, you may often find you still improved and it was still worth the effort.

HA you call it cutting corners, I call it efficiency. Either way the end result is excellent my friend.

I appreciate the support and advice BAM. And thanks to Bailey for confirming things.

To be honest it's nice to know that even you guys have been frustrated and unhappy with projects in the past. I tend to forget that you didn't always paint as awesomely as you do now. The mark of an experienced person in any fields is that they also know what to do if something goes wrong.

The way he's staring, I think your viking wants to pick a fight with the pirate. =)

Congrats on the published pieces. Really nice. And the scene for the pirate is coming along well, I like the colors you're using for the wood ship.

Nice job on the publication of your work! The pirate base looks cool. Maybe, in keeping with your own color-contrast ideas, you could do a bit of greenish weathering on the wood behind the figure to make the nice red on the cape pop out visually? Or at least move it away from the huge red background!!

I like all the updates. Keep em coming!

It's maybe not what you intended, but I take from you and Bailey's excellent advice that I should, er, start another model!

To be honest I miss painting what with all my sculpting and base building work. I'm new at this and worry that any progress I've made with Khorgorath or Maulg will be lost or gone rusty with lack of practice. So I'm going to pick one of my 'fun' minis and get some paint on him tomorrow, just to change things up a bit.

Thanks again.

Updates are good. :good:

Congratulations on the published pics. :) That deck is very cool. The work you've done so far is gorgeous. I'm going to wait to see what cunning plans you have before making any further comments.

I like the base, but agree with the Toad that there needs to be a bit more color. If it looks right irl then ignore us. I originally thought it needed more color, but when I squint, he gets lost in the setting from the waist down do to lack of contrast. Maybe take the ship deck were it would be worn even lighter...almost to the color of the shirt. I think what I am trying to say makes more sense if you look at it in B&W.
