Krule makes a good point - you do lose him a bit against all that wood. Also that plain wall is crying out for a bit of decoration: a pinned up map, crossed cutlasses, something just to break it up a bit.

Dam KB that's a perfect explanation. That is a brilliant tool to help see the true contrast of your painted minis. Also I thought the same thing about the Viking in the background...he wants to fight the pirate SOOOOO bad.

The black and white photo is an interesting way to look at it. I don't mind that his bottom half is as dark as the wood, since the upper body and face really pop in that black and white photo. From the color photo, the red sash clearly stands out. However the pants are a very similar shade of brown to the wood and his cape transitions to a dark red-brown which also blends in.

There are a couple solutions I can think of...
1) Just don't worry about it, the main focus is his face and upper body and that definitely stands out. If you like it that way, then there's no need to change the piece
2) Break up that brown next to brown by either
a) Adding some clutter to the deck behind him. It's a pirate ship, no need to be orderly. There could be parchment scattered, bottles of grog lying around, bits of treasure, etc.
b) Use some light pigments to dust/dirty the pants. This can be focused along the bottom edge and then up the side so that, when you're looking from normal angles, the light pigment shows on the edge of the pants between the figure and the deck.
For either of these, you don't need something all over. Just enough to break up that edge between the two browns.
3) Repaint either the pants or the wood with a different shade. This is probably the most time consuming and the one I'd avoid... but it's still an option.

Those are just my thoughts

II'm gonna take pics today gents ...I'm telling you their is much more color ..first green pigments were put down on the wall to m give a guide of where the greens should be...again let the real pics speak for themselves there is alot of hiding right now...and as for that wall no details have been added yet .there will be buoys, barrels and other things gs that I'm sure youde find on a pirate ship...no where done..hang tightgents.;)

Update. If we take the greyscale it might be a but different with a better light source from out photo set up. I've done this really to show how a wick cellphone shone against my red background of the paint on my wall really doesn't show what Ine seeing. There is still a tone of work as per baily clutter and a dusting of dust pigment in the bottoms edges of the edge of the clothes. But here s the proper look I wanted to show ... What I'm seeing. The middle pic has auto enhance on the rest do not.View attachment 44650View attachment 44651

Janet's photography gives a much clearer idea of where he's at. My previously withheld comments were regarding clutter - but you seem to have a plan. :)

Looks great, BAM. The lighting on the photo really helps the pirate stand out from the background. Looking forward to seeing the next steps!

Tons better. Sigh... We all need a Janet in our lives.

It it would be great to know what the photo setup is - it makes a huge difference.

Looking super nice. I can't wait to see the pirate junk you have planned. That's way to tidy to be either a pirate ship or a BAM mini!
