Bases - wow
Cloth - wow in a multicoloured techno heaven - it is definately Caribbean.
Skin - wow
Face - yes, needs to be lighter, maybe a mid tone is missing.

You guys were right about the face, it actually led me to bringing a bit more gold into the skintone, which I think improved her overall:

Getting reeeal close now, but still needs some work on the arm wrappings, staff, etc.

Added some stuff to the pirates base:

Aaaand put the finishing (I think???) touches on this today:

My god, where to begin.
skin looking wonderful, that leg tattoo, how the hell do you get circles so neat and symmetrical, awesome.
touches to pirate base add some needed character
you might hate me for this, I love you final piece, completely, I have a thing about stone, I believe it needs to have hint of green in it to make it look more organic. It might be the photo and I wish I could paint like you, but it's one of my things !

You mean like moss/lichen? Or just like the stone should be a more greenish material?

Sort of. Stone ages just like wood or anything really and can get discolors by age so there are often redish browns and grey greens and such in addition to the greys and blacks. The more random you are with the tints washes and glazes the more natural it will look too. Have little fun with it and go out and take some ref pics of stone walls, bridges or buildings near you to copy, you may even discover new/old spooky places in your own back yard :)

Si, I think you need to push further with Jen and the Pirates bases too. This really reminds me of my lizard men and a lot of the criticism I have gotten was that I didn't go far enough with the scene.

Your large bits of stone could use more texture. Green pigment powder, massive voodoo moss and gloss varnish will make everything look a bit wet and slimy. A few bits of grass or roots poking out between stones might be cool. Drainpipes or exterior plumbing to break up that pirate wall or maybe a block and tackle with ropes or even a fishing net might set a more nautical stage? Torches and or torch brackets for jen's walls skulls, candles, bottles, shackles, spider webs, dirt, dust, empty coffee cups - make it look lived in, cluttered even. Flesh out your story more.

Unless of course you want to be done. I totally get that. :)

I agree with the previous speakers, it looks too clean. I'd suggest looking at Massive Voodoo's tutorials for inspiration on how to break stuff up, even if you don't want to do the stuff they do, you can get ideas for looks.

I appreciate the feedback. I don't think I'll change the colors of the stone, the teal/violet is already pretty noticeable to my eyes (lightbox pictures below might represent it better than super-bright desk lamp). Taking the advice given, does this seem any better?

Looks like I need to touch up the black around the base a bit, must've scraped it with something. And because of the addition of tea leaf debris, the whole thing now smells like apple-cinnamon!

Oh yeah! That looks way better! All the dirt really ties in your plants and fills up the scene more.. The OSL looks way better too. Might be the better photos. Nice one!

Thankya Demi. I was worried I'd just junked the scene up, but comparing pics it's clear that this is an improvement, and not just because of the lighting. Thanks to all for telling me what I didn't want to hear, I needed it :p

Though I'm honestly surprised you received that kind of crit on your crocadudes, I thought the scene was neat. What do you wish you'd added?

How apropos about the smell since they use cinnamon to cover the stench of decay at crime scenes o_O The stones look much better in this pic.

I wanted to do some water effects and more vegetation. I have a bunch of little scarab beetles coming out of the coptic jars on the back and it would have been really cool to have heavily done those like the mummy movies. Also a mummy or adventurer on the back, maybe some treasure and really a banner across the entry way :)

I have been looking at a lot of WWII dios lately, a lot of those folks work from historic images and it shows. Real life is RICH. There is a lot of stuff going on and it all adds interest, just like adding a gradient to a panel adds interest, adding trash to a sidewalk gives the eye something to linger on. And in competitions I think that anything that can get the judges to spend a little a more time with your piece and pull them in is an advantage. I guess it works the other way too, don't muss up your amazing figure with unnecessary scenery.

Hell that is better, all for a damn photo, sorry for the stress.

Don't be sorry! It's gonna be a competition piece, so anything to make it better is a good thing. Anyways, making interesting bases is one of my chief goals for this year, so this was really helpful.
