That's cool, congrats on the master status ;) I think 3 pirates, one treasure chest on a sandy beach with some water fx waves breaking on the shore. Why start easy when you can dive right in with all the hardest crap in one base?!

Congrats on your elevation, very nice to be so good that others regard you as a quality painter. Unfortunately I'm 4,064 miles away so may miss next year.

Thanks all! I'm having a lot of fun with them. The base, not so much. I spent the first bit of Thursday making it and the last bit of Thursday realizing that I didn't like what I'd made. Back to the drawing board...

Had my first day at DieCon today. The vast majority of it is gaming, not painting-focused, buuut I found a bunch of old RPG books for $6 a pop (I like reading 'em), I got to meet up with Khonner and talk painting, and there's a good chance that I'll be running the painting competition and paint-and-take next year, as well as any classes I might want to teach. Which is kinda crazy cool. Come to DieCon 2016 and subject yourselves to my judgement! :D

Whoa! That's pretty cool! I have been thinking about where my hobby is going and getting involved with a con or something like that sounds really neat.

I have a plan! Well, I have two plans. First up is ordering some good water effects stuff that isn't Water Effects because I don't want to wait 47 days to make a damn pond. Time for the smelly stuff, I guess.

It was like 95% lucky circumstance, the guy who'd done it for 13 years was looking for a way out without leaving the convention organizers hanging. I hope folks are interested, I guess painting participation varies quite a bit year to year.

I got a special something in the mail:

It's SO PRETTY but I will not work on it! Not yet! But seriously, the quality of the sculpt, the detail, everything is amazing. From this experience, I definitely recommend H&V Miniatures.

Nice resin! As far as the con thing goes it might be more than luck. You're a good painter and you put your self out there. Own it!

This base setup looks really cool. I take it there will be water under the wooden planks? And will you paint a pirate ship in the back ground of the image? I can't wait to see how this all turns out, the figures themselves are shaping up really nicely too. I love the white face paint on the one pirate.

Yeah, there will be water in the box (got some single-pour stuff on the way) and some additional details painted into the background...haven't decided exactly what, maybe a boat and the curve of a harbor.

Painting up the inside:

This looks like it is going to be a fantastic piece.

I was at Michael's Arts and Crafts yesterday looking at their wooden craft boxes thinking there had to be a way to make a really cool diorama with one. Now I see how.
