if you don\'t need the flat stuff try a wine shop somewhere that has samples and or a friend that drinks gallons of the stuff (hopefully not the box kind)lol. i have gotten a lot of the true cork that way. its not flat but its free. flat stuff try and find dart borads and or bulletin boards at yard sales. Dunno maybe that would work???

I\'ve been looking at dollar stores and stuff for cheap boards once in a while, no luck so far though :D The closest thing I found was a bunch of adhesive-backed slices of cork 1\" wide. Not very thick, but hey they were like 10 for a dollar so there\'s worse deals out there.

another is try BevMo(us) or cost plus (again us) for some party cork coasters maybe thought those were cheap.Sorry SirJD no more cork errrr..... your white out of the champion is very well done ummmmm......i seriously think that the EC should be a sword kind of guy not that he doesn\'t look good he just looks better with death in his hand:eek: so maybe another weapon hand for the other side.
good luck cant wait to see the un blue tacd finished mini.

@Cog : I cant wait either.
@Jericho: I bought mine off eBay, it was around AU$.75 cents for a 30cmX30cm board, although i got the measurements wrong and it was only .8mm thick not .8cm :p although i actually dont mind it like this, works quite well from what i have used so far.
Ill have finished pics of the test base today.

Finally some paint on something!
Here are the pics of the test base for the army, the cork i ordered ended up being thinner than i thought but i acutally quite like the way it has ended up.

I went for a \"planet surface cracking\" sort of a look, not adding any sand etc around the cork to make it look like deep cracks in the surface, although if you think it would look better ill add some sand around the cork.

All comments and feedback welcome,

the base is awesome.

It\'s about time!

Base looks cool. Perhaps mix it up on some and put sand in patches on the upper surface to add some more texture, but I don\'t see a problem with the black gaps of the base showing through from beneath.

I agree lono, about time :)
Well the paint\'s going well, just started on a scout. The browns are a little grainy but i think i just need to shake them a bit longer. The main difference ive seen is the coverage is fantastic, and it has a nice rich colour, very happy with them.I should have pics of him tomorrow.

Snazzy bases, I\'m suddenly pretty stoked about having some thin cork lying around that might prove useful after all!

Hi again,
Here are the WiP pictures of the scout, they arnt great as its a little hard to photograph him.
The armour needs another highlight and a little cleaning up and ive just started on the emblem on his chest.

:edit: I played around with the pics a bit and got them looking closer to real life

:Edit Again: Also, im not sure whether to paint them like this or go with the \"highlight-the-edges\" style? A bit more like Jericho\'s? any thoughts on this?

Im finding the vallejo paint alot easier to work with than the craft paint i used to use, its alot smoother and easier to blend with.

All feedback is very welcome,

Thanks for that larre :) im trying hard to keep the blends smooth on these guys. I had a go at his face but it didnt go too well, so ill give that another go later.
I think one of the things i need to work on is adding more contrast to my mini\'s, i think i \"play-it-safe\" sometimes and dont highlight/shade enough, but thats something i hope to work on with these guys.

Any things you can see that i can improve on?

Well guys, i broke my vow of \"finish-what-ive-got-before-i-buy-more\".
I bought 5 ravenwing bikes, 1 Ravenwing attack bike, 1 Ravenwing Chaplain on bike and a Dark Angels Dreadnought today..i just couldnt resist..at least i saved a fortune on them, got them for about 1/4 of the normal GW price.

Better get back to painting!

I agree, the bases are very cool.

Also, your paint on the scout looks very clean..I\'m gonna try and copy that. Most of my minis look rather dirty, time to try clean for a change.

As many have stated before very nice blending work. I have a question for you though. What colour will you be painting the wings on his chest? In the DA codex its shown as silver/grey but painted up models have a boney colour instead. I only ask because I\'d like to know the correct colour to use with my DA\'s which i will post in a WIP later.

Thanks for your reply tring.
i have seen alot of people painting them the silver/grey way but i thought i would try this bone colour out, but i may switch it to a grey colour.

Update!
Here are some new WiP pics of the scout showing my progress so far, the pics dont seem to show the green as well as the last pic, but shows everything else pretty much spot on.

Im aiming for a high-ish table top standard with these guys so i dont think he\'s going too badly, and im looking forward to finishing him.

All feeback welcome
