Sounds interesting Skel. Am looking forward to the big reveal on the base! And to see more of Mr Toad after the pic above. I'm sure the colour mix and tones will be spot on as usual.

I heard somewhere you need to create some kind of vacuum chamber to draw all the air out of the resin to stop all the bubbles appearing.

one of those electric car tyre pumps would do the trick your not talking the depths of space type vacuum but hey be low enough pressure. Just have the intake securely attached to the chamber your evacuating. The real rub comes from having a strong enough chamber and air tight gaskets.

I've seen a low pressure glass vessel go in the lab......f*cking made me crap my pants! Glass everywhere went off like a bomb!

Not that it helps a lot now, but the trick is ( if you don't want to invest in a vacuum pump ) to use instead of the 3% of catalyst, use between 2% to 2.5%. After mixing the catalyst to the resin, let it rest about 5 to 10 minutes so that the bubbles surface before pouring. When you pour it, make sure it flows from one of the mould walls to avoid making more bubbles. If any resists, gently tap it on the bottom to make the annoying bubbles surface.

Some new images, way too little time for hobby lately though, so nothing exceptional... tungue has been attached, and the toad is glued stuck to the other part of the base. tilted in these images though!

thats looking amazing. I've not been brave enough to try resin effects yet really need to give it a stab after this. tounge is a great addition too.

Looks like all the sanding has paid off. The water effect looks really cool. So, how much of a pain was it to sand the front side and not destroy the lily pad where it hangs over?:)

I read somewhere that heat (like a flame) can also be used to draw the bubbles out. Only problem with this is the resin is also quit flammable. This resulted in me setting the water on fire when I was doing the pour for the guy in my avatar pic. Fortunately it didn't do much damage, just looked like some kind of flaming cocktail you'd order at a bar. Definitely did NOT draw the bubbles out.

The water effect is looking good even if you probably wont have fingerprints for some time... Want king of material did you used for the tongue?

thanks folks, very happy 'bout the water, although you still can see some marks of the sand-paper this is better than i hoped for (or feared)

khavor; a LOT ;)

alexandra; the tongue is sculpted using super sculpty clay, the type of stuff you have to roast in the oven (10 minutes at 100 degrees something).

You might want to try to pass polish on the sand-paper marks. You can use the same auto painter use to finish the cars polishing. Mind that it has to be extra fine grain. It also has the up side of making the polyester more shiny.

thanks!

alexandra, thanks for the tip. lets see if i can find a suitable car-thing-store. some finer sandpaper would be a nice start, obviously P1200 wasnt enough. 2000 should do it i believe - too bad ive coated the piece with gloss varnish. back to "go" without collecting 2K... AGAIN. lol. live and learn...
