hah, nice that you link to my old hobby blog. think 5th dimension is pretty much stone cold dead now unfortunately.

anyway, it looks kind of ok making the web that way with glue, but the real deal is just way better. also the glue make the progress quite unpredictable and uncontrolled, two words i don't like

So do you draw the banner design on the plasticard first then paint over it? Is there any ever problem with paint going over the pencil lead or the pencil showing through?

nice looking banner skel! do you have a base plan in your head/on paper or are you just winging it?
also if you want cobwebs, should i send you some spiders? we have lots of them year round here and apparently if you're exporting something you're allowed to have up to 7 spiders per box and not be pulled up by customs.

Quantum Man; just drew a small grid on the plasticard, just to get the proportions right which is quite hard (at least for me) when it comes to these "exact" designs and the griffins shall be somewhat the same on both sides. it usually is no problem painting over the pencil but this time as its white bg color it require quite much more layers of paint.

Meaty; this banner is historical (Genova, italy) so yeah, just copy-ing oh and thanks but no thanks for the spiders, i think i set with our cute, polite, friendly, harmless little swedish spiders

Ink should not be a problem. Lead pencil might be due to the graphite in it.

I use Watercolor pencils. They turn into paint when you hit them with anything wet. (such as paint)
