Ok, i\'m not Jimmy Buffet, but i am in the Navy. Swore in 29 hours ago. Got a 94 on my ASVABs and the job i wanted in Special Intellegence (i\'m going to spy on you all wu-hahahaha) pending my FBI background check. Ship out date is January 3rd, so if any of you live near the Great Lakes area and want to watch me freeze my butt off on 435346765857456 mile runs come on out and cheer a fellow CMoNer on:D.

Isn\'t \'Military Intelligence\' an oxymoron? ???

But seriously, good luck, and don\'t forget to get some updated Satelite photos for us, I hear some of the CMON ladies want to drop their drawers for the cameras... ;)

Sorry MT, i\'d really like to send you the CMoN ladies minus their undies, but those photos are classified and you don\'t have a \"need to know\"hehehelol

Congrats.
Stay low in boot camp, don\'t try to stand out in any way, and you\'ll get through fine.
And if they ever ask you if you want to go to \"Marching Party\" or anything with the word \"Party\" in it say no. Trust me.
Good Luck.

I\'d add: - Listen to your drill instructors, carefully.

The navy used to have 2 boot camps, Great Mistakes where you have to shovel snow off of the drill field so you can do push ups. And Orlando. In the infinite wisdom of the senate, Orlando was closed.

I did my Boot in San Diego. Unfortunately during the Clinton years they shut it down.

Every one in the Military and the Coast Guard go through Boot Camp, also known as Basic Training.
This is to provide you with the basic work skills, basic weapon skills and team skills you will need to continue. It also helps weed those out not capable of cutting it.
After boot camp you will go through another phase of training (In the Navy this was called A school) in which you will learn your technical skills.
This is one of the reasons a lot of us ex-military get angry when someone complains about \"being just a radio operator\" going into combat. They had the same basic training as everyone else. Whether they choose to practice those survival skills, or even better themselves in their weapon skills is entirely up to them.
Always remember that in the military you are a Sailor, Soldier, Marine first, a technician second.

Edit: Evil Dave beat me to it.

Boot Camp is Basic Training, Arthur; everyone does it. Its kind of like that first two years of college where everyone is just taking up space. By the end of Boot Camp they figure out where you are going (BTW Itchy what you want isn\'t neccessarily what THEY want, sorry to burst your bubble.) Once done with Basic you may wind up in Specialist school, but if you are in the army and go into the infantry then you get like another 8 weeks of Basic!

About my above comment concerning where you end up: My brother got a 97 on his ASVAB (he\'s an actual genius), got all of the highest medals in basic (expert marksman, expert grenade thrower, etc...) and graduated Basic #1 in the country that year. He and the #2 fellow got to each shoot off a $50,000 shaperal missile at a drone plane and knock it down during the commencment ceremonies. He was in Hell on Wheels, Patton\'s old Armor division. He was an expert in anti-aircraft AND anti-tank weaponry(amongst other things) and was told he could pick ANY job he wanted. Then the General\'s driver mustered out and he needed a new chauffer. He told the men under him him he wanted whoever scored the highest on the mechanical apptitude test to be his new driver. Guess what? My brother scored %100 on that part (he scored that high on most parts) and got stuck with the job. The most intelligent man the US military hired that year became a grease monkey. Just one of the MANY stupid decisions that are made evryday concerning human lives.

Did I mention it drove my brother nuts and he was given a phsychological (medical) Discharge? No... I\'m not bitter...

The Navy is better about this than most branches. I never met a person who didn\'t go to the school they signed up for, unlees they flunked out of said school.

First, thank you to everyone for the support.

steelcult: Sure if you\'d like to send letters back and forth just send me an email with your snail addy to Schmidt.Nicholas@Gmail.com

@MT: i actaully got them to write in my contract my \"guaranteed\" job before swear in. So there\'s a place for me in the A school already. Now i know guaranteed jobs aren\'t really 200% guaranteed, but the military hates to spend 10,000 dollars on an extensive background check to give somebody a top secret clearance, then turn them into a janitor. So once i clear my background check... i\'m told i\'m pretty much in.

As to my job. i\'ll be a Cryptologic Technician. Basically i\'ll be a spook spying on the bad guy either in the feild, or hiding on a ship or shoreside. Here\'s the long answer of my rating. http://www.npc.navy.mil/Enlisted/Co...Cryptologic+Technician+-+Collection+(CTR).htm

Remember, attack is the best form of defence. At least, that\'s the usual American policy! Blow the shit out of anyone who looks beardy and foreign. And speaks with an arabic accent. Good luck in the most aggressive defence system in the world :innocent:

Honestly, you\'d be better off shovelling shit than having your head screwed by the mind control freakery of the armed forces. Kill a few people and spend some time shitting bricks holed up in small places, then try and be a normal human being afterwards. Ain\'t going to happen! But good luck.

War is shit.
