There will be a line of miniatures based on George R.R. Martin\'s \"Song of Ice and Fire\" series, as well as a skirmish style game. The link below is to his website, click on the news section and read the article titled \"Miniatures, Miniatures and More Miniatures\".

Not sure about Testor\'s doing the figures - have they done anything like this before?

Ah not about the figs, but about the books... I really have been meaning to read those... but R.A. Salvatore just has too damn many >.<

Heheh soon, soon...

Holy crap Batman!

I can\'t wait to see what these will look like. It seems that they have some of the best sculpters in line to do the mini\'s.

@ MarkusTay, The \"Song of Ice and Fire\" series is one of the most in-depth high fantasy series out there. They surpass The Wheel of Time books in quality, have more plots than you can shack a stick at and have some major characters biting the dust.

The only problem with the books is that Mr. Martin does not write fast enough. I would recomend them to anybody.

Thanx for the info, believe or not I haven\'t read the Wheel of time stuff either. Besides forgotten realms novels, the only other series I\'ve been reading recently was the sword of truth. Good stuff, very grity, very adult. Guess I\'ll have to find more time for reading (does forum reading count?). :D

It seems as though the folks at Testor\'s are starting to \'see the light\' when it comes to gaming potential. A short while back someone posted a link mentioning a \"car wars\" type game to be used with model cars.

Testors undoubtably already has the manufactering capabilities for plastics, given they do tons of model kits already.

They also have an extensive model paint branch with some very high quality products (dullcoat). They even have now started dabbling with their own line of \'warband\' paints with colors like Ogre Brown and Centaur Flesh.

They have a growing selection of modelling tools (razor saws, paint brushes, pin vises, etc.).

The marketing and financial people over at Testors are clearly starting to see what true gaming companies are capable of doing, and seeing how they have much of the overhead already under their name, makes very good sense.

I don\'t want to sound like a Testors informmercial but it the more alternatives and products our hobby has, the more it keeps prices in check, and the more choices it gives us.

I hope they stay committed to this.

Sounds cool enough, but I would rather see Mr. Martin expend his energies towards actually writing the next book, which has been \"coming soon\" for what, 2 years now?, than developing a miniature line.. ;P

Terry Goodkind is an amazing author, he\'s actually my favorite... How far into the series have you gotten? (Up to Chainfire yet?)

Not a problem Markus. I read I think the 1st three of the Goodkind novels and lost interest. Have they gotten better? IMHO both the \"Songs of Ice and Fire\" and \"Wheel of Time\" Series are much better. The 1st 5 or 6 books of the Wheel of Time are incredible reads. I have read them like 3 times.

Another favorite authour would be Raymond E. Feist, his Rift War books are well worth the read.

Haven\'t read the books either. Will have to look into these.

The one thing that no one pointed out about the minis was that testors has Tom Meier working on the first set. If you\'re going to break into the industry, snagging one of its to sculptors to produce your virgin line seems like a pretty smart move to me.... ;)

I actually sent off an e-mail to the folks at Testors applauding them for making a committment towards \'hobby gaming\'. I think it is a smart move on their part. I also shamelessly suggested that they check on CMON for rising painting talent that would like to make a name for themselves....:D

But if they had signed Tom Meier, I think it sound like they know what they are doing...

I humbly offer my (low) talent for Mr Martin\'s saga... i loved every single line of his books!

They also have Sandra Garity and Julie Guthrie, so add Tom Meier and they have 3 of the best sculpters in the industry today. I am very interested in seeing the sculpts.

@ Supervike, what a great Idea! There are a lot of really great painters on this site.

You\'d think it would be a no-brainer, if you want some of the worlds best talent, this is definately the place to come.

Damn, and i thought this post was gonna be to say that the latest book is finally finished... It\'s an awesome series and i just wish George R R Martin would write faster.

I\'d also reccoment Steven Erikson, just read the first 4 Mazalan books and they have more plot in one book than 3 of Robert Jordan\'s....

More plot in 1 book, damn that must be very plot heavy, cause the 1 constant complaint that I have heard, other than he does not write fast enough, is that there are to many plots.

A book is like a cemetary... it can never have too many plots!

@ Drake - The series has gone downhill somewhat, and the Pillars of Creation was positively abysmal. Naked Empire was Okay, but I think he\'s really reaching for ideas at this point. Testors has Sandra Garrity?! She\'s one of my favourites! Her attention to detail is exquisite! Now if they could just get Werner Klocke and Chaz Elliot I think I would read the series just because of that!

@ Tylith - I just finished Naked Empire recently. Although his writing is still excellent, I think he\'s beating a dead horse with this series. The whole \"Richard Cypher is incredible powerful but has no clue how to do anything\" plot device has become OLD. He should of stuck with the first three and ended it. Like The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever, same exact plot device and the first three books have become Fantasy Classics. Then he had to go and write three more and screw the whole thing up. After awhile people start to say, \"OK moron, you\'ve had plenty of time to learn, so start using your powers already!\"

@ Everyone - I was gonna read The 1000 Orcs or The war of the Spider Queen series next, but it sounds like I\'ll have to check out these other series first. I need a break from the Realms anyway, Thanks guys for your wonderful reccomendations.

Yeah that\'s kinda what I thought. He seemed to get really repetitive there. The 1st 2 books are really good. I jsut started the War of the Spider Queen and have read the 1st 2 of the 1000 orcs series.

I would love to see them get Klocke or Elliot. Gael would be awsome as well.
