Let me clarify...
I\'m not saying if some guy hits on your sister, you kill him, but sometimes there is no alternative to violence, unless you consider extinction a viable alternative.
Well, I think extinction might be a bit unavoidable with your self-perpetuating idea of self defense.
\"You killed my brother for killing my sister? Die!! \"You killed Dave for killing your brother for killing his sister? Die!!
Violence has been bred into us and every animal on this planet, mother nature is not just the green of growing things, but also the red of tooth and nail, rending and ripping for survival.
The argument that we, as a race, are more civilized than this is a farce, considering the eyeblink of time our civilization has exsisted.
I believe that the animals have it right with the fight/flee mechanisms.
Of all the animals on the planet, only humans fight and kill over concepts. Concepts that cannot be proved or disproved.
Well, whats the problem with fighting over concepts and thoughts? Part of the reason we are one of the only animals that does that is because we are one of the animals that can. So shoot us. Once again, conceptual thinking itself is a part of our nature just as much as violence is. Don\'t fight nature, as you say. We\'re humans, and humans do as humans do. Are other species somehow better than us because they\'re ruled by their primal instincts of food, mate, etc.? No, because we too are ruled by primal instincts, they just happen to be slightly different. Okay, so with our \"conceptual thinking\", we cause many wars, but with our conceptual thinking, we can also see the stars, philosophize, create vaccines, and make life easier for ourselves as we know how. Sure animals might be less destructive, but do you truly think a parasite, if it had as much power as us, would stop short of taking over the planet? Would a bacteria willingly hold itself back to save the environment?
Mmm, I kind of lost track there. Basically, I don\'t see the point of shutting down our \"conceptual thinking\" if we have it. It\'s a part of us. It may be destructive, but it doesn\'t have to be. Killing when the urge strikes you isn\'t, in fact, getting back to nature and our roots, as the conscious mind is our roots. The \"good old days\" aren\'t always the good old days. Romantic as it may sound, there is a reason why we don\'t still hunt for our food, drag it back to our cave, eat it, and make it\'s skin into fur, why we don\'t only kill for food. It\'s, sadly, in our nature as humans. And as messed up as it may be, there\'s that little thing called evolution....
So if I come over to your house and piss on your lawn, are you gonna kill me?![]()
If you knew that by attacking me, that I would wipe everyone you knew, loved and held dear off the face of the planet, with no hesitation, I would tend to think you would think twice about screwing with me.
I agree with this to some extent....that\'s exactly the problem with the Star Wars program, in my opinion. It takes out a large portion of the fear of retaliation factor for the States, at least in terms of nuclear war.
