Looks fantastic! Yeah, figuring out the contrast at those larger scales can be tough. In my opinion you can still do high contrast as long as you include some variation in there and don't go overboard with it. I was looking over at P&P at some of the busts Ju-Won Jung painted for Galapagos Miniatures. I think he's got great dramatic contrast but still gets a realistic looking result. Sang Eon Lee's stuff at Life Miniatures is also great inspiration for realism. But I think you're definitely on the right track. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you develop this guy.

That is amazing work dude. I love your nurgle stuff but really, really love your busts! (Sorry that sounds a bit dodgy!)

Good start on the bust, I'm looking forward for your progress. Busts are more interesting for me than before after my last polish experience :)

It is truly a privilege to be able to see you work. You have an incredible talent and it's an absolute joy to see.

I really cannot overstate how impressive that paintwork is. The "roughly blocked in" leather hat looks awesome, too. The standard you've achieved is really something for others to strive for.

I've a feeling that the "Roughly Blocked In" will turn out to be something rather special.
I suspect we may see a LESSON in the application of glazes.

Thanks Guys, glad you like him, I'm really having a good time painting him so far! I thought I was in danger of getting a bit complacent over all the Nurgle stuff I've been painting and needed a change to keep things fresh. The change in scale is keeping me on my toes and providing a stimulating challenge.

I've noticed that I shifted up the scale of my painting style and was working in a slightly bolder/looser way on this bust. That's great but I need to remember to switch back to a tight, sharp & controlled style of painting when I need it. I was finding some of the small details tricky and had to remind myself that I usually work on far smaller details on a mini. It just goes to show how quickly you can adapt to something!

I've put together a tutorial for the water effects on Gutrot Spume. You can find it HERE at the Legion of the cow.

Looking great Sproket, seriously. Sometime I see your wip and a model your painting, and think a section is finished only to come back to check up and find you've somehow managed to take it further and make it look better! It's really is inspiring. The plague bearers are awesome. Love that style you've picked.

Looks fabulous, Sproket. I'd shorten the hairs a bit too: I think you need to see the ends framed by the ear to make sense of it as hair. Right now they end right in front of the first crescent-shaped crevice of the ear, so your eye loses track of them. Shorten them by about a third, with irregular lengths, and they would be framed beautifully.
