\'Star Wars world\' found in triple star system

Hi All - was checking on the shuttle launch time (wanted to see if from the top of St. Augustine\'s lighthouse) and found this news story.

Unfortunately, the shuttle launch has been postponed until at least Sat. :( and we\'ll be at Grail Quest then.

It seems there is no word if a Jabba the Hutt type creature was found, but they did find some metal nuts and bolts, indicating that the \'droids had passed that way.

Well there is one major difference with tatoine. This is a gas planette like jupiter, nothing solid to stand on. We\'ll have to keep looking :p

Well if the universe is infinate, there are an infinate number of planets. So theoretically there is a planet out there that is exactly the same as tatooine down to the last grain of sand.

Whether there are tuskens and jawas or not is a different matter

If the Universe is infinite, with an infinite number of planets, then there should be an infinite number of Tatooines. Therefore, there must be at least one with Jawas and Sand people.


This also means there must be at least one world out there ruled by beautiful amazon women who worship an idol that looks amazingly like me. If anyone should happen to find it give me a holler, Okay?

I think the current consensus is that the universe is not infinite, however. The favoured theory now is of a finite, expanding universe, but they are not sure if it is infinitely expanding or will contract again.

saw an interesting theory the other day that the universe was smaller then we though because it acted in such a way that we saw mirror images of the universe wich made us think it was bigger then it actually is.
 
@NSA: I think the general consensus is that, eventually, the outward energy created by the \"big bang\" will run out, as they have somehow found out that the big U\'s expansion is getting slower. Once that expansion becomes slow enough, the mutual gravitation of the individual pieces takes over, everything starts moving to each other (and ever faster to boot) ---> \"big crunch\". There\'s a nighttime show here on German TV where some (Astro-)Physics Professor just stands there (classroom-like) and tells you stuff about phenomena in space. Great stuff, followed closely by Bob Ross\' \"Joy of Painting\" reruns ...

@Frenchkid: That\'s weird... Hwo\'d have thought our Universe was such a tricky bugger...:D

It really is amazing how such a planet can form, and even exist in such a system. Current planet formation theories favour gas giants being formed a fair distance from the central star - terrestrial planets are given enough hot time to differentiate into rock/gas and basically have all their gasses blown away by the star. What I want to know is how they know that planet is gaseous, and not a captured asteroid or something like that.

As for the universe\'s continued expansion, there has also been evidence that the expansion is quickening. If only we could figure out that dark matter problem, and work out the average density of the universe. Then again, there\'s also evidence of the universe\'s density being that required for linear expansion. One thing seems quite certain though; the universe has an infinite boundary enclosing a finite space.

Things like this make my head spin.

It is a very interesting topic, but try as I might I can\'t quite get my head around it. I\'ve tried to read several books/articles on the topic, but invaribly I end up looking for a comic book or something bright and shiney to take my mind off of it...lol

Do they make a \'Astrophysicists for Dummies\"? lollol
