In addition to NSA\'s list, I\'d add (and edit as I think of things);
Modelling and assembly
- Brass wire or simple paperclips - for pinning of course.
- More X-acto knife blades - blades are safest and best when they\'re the sharpest.
- Liquid two-part epoxy glue - use this stuff when pinning for serious strength.
- Green stuff - two part epoxy putty, but better for detail work than the general purpose stuff. Get the general stuff too, it\'s wonderful for bases.
Brushes
- Painting brushes - personal preference, but I use size 000, 0 and 1. Windsor & Newton Series 7 and Sceptre Gold, and Daler Rowney / Robert Simmons white sable, those are my choices, usually based on availablity.
- Drybrushing brushes - Any old junk you have, cut the tip so that it\'s blunt and the bristles are rigid. Or Daler Rowney cat\'s tongue brushes for overbrushing - superb!
Painting media
- Flow improver - Winsor & Newton Acrylic Flow Improver - I won\'t paint without it
- Future floor wax (or equivalent) - there\'s a good reason it\'s called the miracle wash medium.
- Drying retarder - get a good liquid one, not a gel. Not too useful unless you want to do wet blending.
Lighting
- Some good, bright daylight incandescent bulbs, you might need around 120W worth
or better yet
- Cool white power compact lamps - 60W should be plenty
or better yet
- 6500K daylight power compact lamps - I use 72W of these strip lamps, and for colour production and brightness, they\'re magnificent. A left over from marine fishkeeping where
quality lighting is of exceptional importance.
(power compact are the same things as those energy saving lamps)
Miscellaneous
- A big glass jar for rinse water - some would advocate using distilled water, depending on where you are in the world.
- A big glass jar filled with brake fluid - lovely stuff for stripping paint. Others prefer other things, brake fluid just works for me.
- A painting shirt - I have some shirts that I wear specifically when painting. They\'re the handiest rags to have around
