Yeah, create looking addition to the figure, Sionid! I know we took the same class but I don't think I could pull that off yet. Very nice!

So I'm trying to plan things out while I wait for my mini to show up and was wondering, for you who already have her, what size would be good for her base?

Wow Si, the GS skirt looks incredible. I'd say your class paid off quite well. The wrinkles look good and should paint very well. That's the awesome thing about sculpting: you sculpt textures or surfaces that look great when given a gradient. Like when you see a part of a mini and you're like "Oooh, I know just how to paint that," except in reverse order.

If if you mean you need to sand the GS, sadly it doesn't take to sanding very well. For this reason I frequently mix Milliput in with my greenstuff, 50/50. This allows it to be sanded. But maybe you weren't referring to this...

Anyway, cheers! Way to make this mini your own with a solid conversion...

Thanks! It took a monstrous amount of time for such a little thing. And yeah, I was referring to sanding the gs. I haven't tried yet, but the dude who taught the class--Joe Orteza--said he sands a lot of what he sculpts, maybe he uses a particular kind of sandpaper? I should've picked his brain more!

EDIT: infelix, she's like 3.25 inches tall without the bird, if that's at all helpful? I'm not at all sure how I'm basing her yet.

I haven't had a lot of success sanding straight GS - if I know I'm going to be sanding, I usually mix in some milliput.
Looks like it's going to be Tallulah for sure. Just don't see getting Jessica (as much as I'd like to) any time soon.

I wet sand Greenstuff with a fine grade of wet & dry sandpaper and it comes out OK. The water lubricates the sandpaper and (in my experience) gives a much smoother result than dry sanding.

Yeah. I like 1000 grit for sanding the minis 600 seems a little too rough to me, but some times the GS still tears or fuzzes. Going to have to try adding some water.

I am also not sure that getting a polished surface, like in the article is that important. You certainly want to get all the pits worked out, but in my experience the polished shiny surface is indistinguishable from a smooth tarnished surface once you have primered. I think it's worth pointing out that tarnish looks rough but is really just the first layer of atoms interacting with our atmosphere or dish detergent, or whatever.

I am a big fan of washing an unpainted mini with ink to spot imperfections. I know some folks primer white then wash with ink to spot the rough spots too.

Are all the Jessica ' s metal? Seems like a good candidate for resin.

I wish I had a figure in my current queue that fit the criteria to join in, but sadly I do not. I look forward to following all the progress in here.

Sionid, love the little addition you've made, I think I should take that GS class next year.

I've looked and looked at the figure and something didn't look "right".
Took me while to realise that it was her weapon, that revolver seems "off".
Don't know if it's the lack of upper frame support or just my expectation based on my own experience.

Strange how we expect something to look like X,Y or Z and when it doesn't we get all confused and "off kilter".

I think I see what you mean, in a modern revolver we expect a heavy top strap above the cylinder. In this case it appears to be modeled off a Colt Dragoon, except the hinge point in front of the cylinder does not appear that well defined.

Thank you Mr Postman, has been a long day, so wont even make a start on her till tomorrow, and wont get any paint {and by paint, i mean primer} down till the weekend. nice looking model though, Good call Bailey.

Infelix, pop a pic, lets see some paint on that metal. . . . Also goes to anyone else who has made a start, would love to see how people go about painting this mini.

Nice! I'm glad it arrived safely! I haven't had much time to do any work on her, but I'm hoping I can at least get her mostly prepped and assembled this weekend.

On a related note, Scale75 shared this link on their facebook page. It's a work in progress gallery for the Jessica Thunderhawk figure by MayArt. It's a really nice version (although quite different from what I was planning) and may give people some ideas for colors or help with shadow and highlight placement. I'll keeping an eye on this to see how it turns out.

a really good start. Do I see it correctly that you used no primer? if yes won't it be a problem and does it have any real advantage?

...aaand here I am, assembled and primed it before eastern, nothing done since then....
