Well I am intrigued... Could you not just use alcohol to thin and clean, or does it evaporate too fast?

Thanks you guys!

probably could if I could find it anywhere, whenever I ask, all I get is a blank look and \"sorry, we don\'t sell that here....\" type of response

go to a chemist\'s and ask for rubbing alcohol

what do you use to clean your brush with when you are done?

do\'oh!
didn\'t think of a chemist, been looking in art type shops

I haven\'t been using them, because I didn\'t have the thinners.
I could have got it from the wholesaler I bought my Vallejo stock from, if I wanted a box of ten! then there\'s the carriage charge for orders under a certain amount, if I ever get round to re-stocking I may order them then

mind you I haven\'t really been painting until recently, because I wasn\'t that well for about the last year (but that\'s another story.....)

ok here\'s an update...

Ok here we go, I\'ve done the fur and I pretty happy with it, but feel free to critique away
I kinda jumped ahead a little too, and had a mini play with the alcohol metallics, boy they dry quick!
I\'ve also been using Acrylic Matt Medium, just the tiniest bit on the end of the mixing brush, bosh! It\'s the most complete matt I\'ve seen, anyway enough rambling, on with the pics

I paint my thumb.
Nice to see progress on this, looking good.
Maybe you could glaze some browns here and there, to make it look a bit more filthy.

thanks guys

yeah GO, I might go a couple of more glazes as I feel he\'s not as dark as I\'ve \"seen\" him in my minds eye

Lookin\' good Mick. I got my Alcohol Metals today, but I only got half of the ones I ordered. DAMN! Looking forward to seeing this come to life.

that\'s (half)good, don\'t forget to give them a thorough stir, I converted one of those battery operated coffee frothers. I nipped the curly end off with a pair of pliers, leaving a tiny bend on the end. You\'ll need some sort of cover to go over the pot too otherwise it\'ll spray everything else on your workbench too. I customized a cork in the end :D

Granddad!
here we are then

I\'ve done the red of the helmet

I\'ve also finished the metal trim, I started painting the neck plates metal, but I dont like them, I\'m thinking they should be a leather look, or maybe red as a continuation of the helmet inner

If you go for the same red as the helmet maybe try making the shoulder pads really dirty and mucky to get the brown back in as well.

Granddad!
still not sure about red on the neck plates, might just make them a leathery brown

I gave the trim a black wash, and it\'s made a huge difference, I also painted the \'medallions\' on his chest copper

Neck Plates?
Looking at the Shoulder Pads I\'m thinking they should be an old pitted metal well marked with blood, rust and grime.

Looking good, but please tell me this ins\'t your only project on the go.... FINISH HIM!

How are you finding the Vallejo Alcohol metal paints? I still need to get some of the other colors (back ordered) before I can use mine and wanted to hear how they\'ve been working. Look great, but wondered about the actual painting with them.

Keep it going man!

I\'m gonna disagree with the others and say go for more metal.

You\'ve got the little bit of red on the helmet tying him into the GW world and making it a Skaven rather then some generic Ratman. I would take the opportunity to work the metals on the neck pad and make them extra super duper grimy and crappified. I think more red or any other color on the neck piece will not work as well color wise as a 28mm skaven vs. this bust.

BUT.... I know nothing of this big stuff.
