Straightening Finecast Weapons

So just as an update to the finecast figures. I did straighten them with warm then cold water. It worked to some degree but after a few days of them settling (of course, after they are primed and such) they warped back a little. I'm really not digging the soft materials they cast out of. I managed to gently pull them straight again. Lets see how long that lasts.

the newer casts are much better than the initial ones, but bent weapons is just something inherent in any resin casting.

you would expect them to at least having tied the stuff out before basing production on it.
this bending is inherent to most molding processes, that's why _good_ molders design the molds/masters bend the other way to compensate. but since i expect gw to just have taken the old tin masters, i'm not surprised about the effect. the curing time for the part is also important, the longer you keep the stuff in the mold, the less bending afterwards.
this points to overall poor quality.

I bought a Sslyth which was a misscast, it had a large deformed lump of resin on the shoulder blade.
Meh, it was my second finecast mini and the first one was fine. I took it back to the shop and they gave me another, I asked them to open it in branch.
Must have been from the same batch cause it had the exact same misscast on the shoulder.
The lad I was speaking to tried to convince me it would be easy enough to fix (nonsense) and the manager overheard and told him to get me one I was happy with.
I took the third one out the box and had a look at it and it seemed fine, it was later when I was base coating it I realised that the two halfs of the mould were not alligned properly.
Four "finecast" mini's, 3 were misscast. I called CS and the guy sent me out a replacement figure.
If the price had dropped I wouldn't mind as much but with the higher price equalling poorer quality figures I think it will be aq while before I buy any others.

Stupid question.

Say someone has a finecast Konrad with bendy swords,
just said to hell with it and primed ol' bendy blades anyway,
then saw this post. Can he still use warm water if it's been
primed?

Probably. Worst case scenario, the paint flakes off the swords when you bend em back. If tht happens, gently brush off as much of the loosened paint as you can, use some very gentle sandpaper and smooth out the surface again, then re-prime the swords. Robert's yer muvver's bruvver :)

I use a hairdryer rather than hot water personally. Quicker/easier, and I have one to hand on my desk(every painter should have one imo.) Never managed to melt a model so far. I'd also avoid pulling the weapon to straighten it personally. That will just stretch it, and you can't unstretch it if you go too far. Simple lateral unbending is the way to go methinks.
