Stripping GW Plastics

I\'ve decided to repaint most of my empire army but the original paint jobs were quite horrible and id rather start fresh than try to slavage them. Does anyone on here know of good ways to strip paint from the gw plastics without damaging the mini itself? I made a quick look in the forums and articles and couldnt quite find anything. Could some one help me out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi welcome to the forums!

so you want to strip your minis? well..... luckly for you we here hold a simple solution! the all mighty break fluid bath! simply place your minis in a container of break fluid (the longer the better... you can even forget them for a year i know some 1 that did that) after a while take them out give them a scrub with a old tooth brush rinse em off in soapy water prime em and ur good to go!

Thanks for your help. Will the break fluid do anything to the glue holding the peices together? I forgot to mention that concern before. And what about flocked bases? Should I attempt to scrape it off the base first or should I just throw the whole thing into the brake fluid?

break fluid can weaken super glue... for flock just leave it on and repaint it. if some flock comes off simply reglue before you prime

I have used Simple Green to strip some of my old Tau mini\'s.

Never used brake fluid but I am contemplating giving it a try. Is it safe to dispose of down my drain? Will it take black primer off, for some reason I can\'t get simple green to remove black primer all that well.

can\'t leave plastique minis forever in break fluid. Left a space marine in a Break fluid bath for 2 month and the break fluid had started to attack the plastiqueleaving the armor less then smooth.

Or does it take longer for the paint to break down?

I\'ve heard that Pinesol works too. Anyone tried it out? Any suggestions on how long to leave the minis in for so as to not damage them?

i use Pinsole on metal and plastic minis that were painted in acrylic and enamle paint... took any paint off any material, but the acrylic took longer to take off. The Pinesole didn\'t hurt my minis any either.

for plastics and resins, i use simple green. but i hear thet with break fluid you dont need to scrub. so i think im going to try that next.

I had no sucsess with pinesol. It did little to stipping the paint off. I find that I need to scrub a little with simple green but usually the paint comes right off. Except for stuff primed black.

24H works fine, 48h for easier scrubing. Actually the more you leave it in the easier it is to scrub Donc\'t leave it more then a month though.
I heard that 90 degree alcool works too for striping plastique. Never tried it though.

You can also use oven cleaner, works well and doesn\'t attack plastic that I\'m aware of.

really? i havnt heard of that i know a guy forgot about it and found it a yr later un harmed.... and yes it will take off the black primer

If the paint isn\'t too thick, I just paint over it and don\'t bother to strip them.

Well maybe I got a cheap plastique Space marine Never tried leaving a mini for that long after wards But anyway I don\'t think to many people tend to leave minis in stripper for mor then a month so we can say that break fluid is safe for plastique

Well I don\'t touch it that much, I do tend to be carful with stuff that look toxique
