Aaaaaargh, house selling sucks!!! The deff arsenal is pure orkishness and most definitely overkill - great job. Good tactical decision to leave out the storm boys. Skin is looking good!

Excited to see more on the bomber.
Cheers

I vote to add a crewmember to that bomber that's holding a slingshot. ^^

Seconded but in this position

Just discovered your thread and took my time to look through it from front to back. WOW, I'm impressed about this level of orkyness. I'll follow this one closely, love the bomber

Thanks dolenmorgul! I'm glad you liked the stuff in here. :)

Selling a house (selling it well, anyway) is hard work! Whew! Anyone know of anyone in the central Minnesota area in need of a nice 5 bedroom rambler with a lot of party space?

Anyway, I still have some painting I can do while everything else is packed. A neat bonus is if I finish the stormboyz before the house sells, I've got a Forgeworld Bikerboss coming that should help fill in the time til then. :) On to what I am working on though - stormboyz!

I've spent a bit of time over the last week or so (more than usual because of the house selling thing) and really didn't post anything because they were short sessions that really didn't show much difference. Now the new pics actually look a bit advanced from the old ones.

I've completed the clothing (blue to match Zagstruk, not because he's a Deffskull), the leather straps and the fur trim on the ones that have it. A problem with taking pics of this work is most of it is only seen from the underneath so showing a regular front-on shot of the mob doesn't really show much. I've picked a couple to show the general level of work I'm doing here.

They're a little better than my standard boyz as I'm using these guys to kill time - I might as well spend a little of it doing a slightly better job. I'm at the point now where I can't really assembly line paint the same things on all of the models so it's 'pick one and finish it' and repeat. Then off to the rokket packs!

Later!

Slow progressd on the stormboyz, but progress none the less. I decided since I was using these to waste time until we move into the new house (which we got - probably another 30+ days before move in) I was going to use these to test and push myself. I want to try using a totally NNM technique - no metallic paints. We'll see how it goes.

The only thing I got done this week was the boots. As with all of the new ork models, the details are incredible and finely done. Since it's hard to shoot these due to angle and lighting, I'll just post a few of them...

And I picked up a little bit of usefulness at the local thrift store today...

It's a bit larger than the Forgeworld Gargantuan Squiggoth but I'm going to make this guy work. Much cheaper!!!

"Ahuummm. Oi, Barry! Why's that Squiggoth smiling?"
"Dakka. He's getting more Dakka."

Why do I see tiny little robotic T-rex arms holding a chaingun?

When do we get to see the Bomma all skinned up...

..additional thought-have you ever considered gluing a spare snotling/gretchin head in place of one or two of the missiles in the deff arsenal..you know...like living rockets (or insubordinate minions)?

@cannon_fodder: There probably won't be much progress on the bommer til around Xmas. I just bought a house and will be moving in a week. As for the grots.... there will be plenty of grot goodness on the underwing bombs :)

Slow and steady wins the race, right? I must be winning something!

I've put in about 5 hours over the last two weeks with a bunch of piddly stuff on the stormboyz. straps and buckles, control boxes, and a couple of weapons. I find that I'v egot the NMM for small and round things down pretty good. The larger, flat open spaces need a bit of work. Here's some detail shots before I did the reds and hoses for the weapons on four of them - the ones with the under-slung sluggas.

Getting a little better at where to put the white highlights and how much - hands are still a little shakey though.

storm10.jpg

And at the end of the night, a little conga line left and right. I still have the bolt on spike/blades on the one to finish and I'll call these four done for now. I'll move on to the other six stormboyz and do their weapons as they're all pretty much the same combos of knives and sluggas. Then I'll go through and do all the shoulderpads. After all that I get to figure out what to do with all the rokket packs!

I also wanted to introduce you to my painting buddy. His name is Rowdy and he lives up to every letter in his name. When he's not raising hell around the house, he's the cutest damn thing. Whenever I do my modeling, whether painting or creating stuff, he always parks himself within a couple of feet of me and sleeps. Never in my lap, always a short step away. He gives me a good excuse to wake him up every once in a while to take a break from whatever I'm doing. I know, he looks a bit strange here but he does this all the time. Not just lying on his back all stretched out but craning only his neck up and looking at you weird like this. I see it every morning while I'm ironing my clothes for work.

Rowdy's wierd too.

It will probably be while before my next post again as my wife and I close on our new house (yay!) on Monday. Two weeks, at least. Under three if I can get enough stuff done and my painting hutch unpacked sooner rather than later. We'll see.

Later!

Love the orks, your highlights are well-placed. Rowdy is great...my dog does the same roll-over move with the bent front paws. Classic move.

Had to dig a bit to find my thread.... Moved last weekend during a huge snowstorm. It sucked, big time. Glad that parts over though. What that does mean is I finally got the rest of the house in a state that I could set up my workbench without guilt.

We moved to an older house (1953) and it's an absolute wonder. I get a spot in the basement for doing my messy construction work and the painting hutch will be in a fourth bedroom upstairs. Here's the basic setup in the corner of the unfinished part of the basement.

bommer108.jpg

The wall closets to the right contain all the boxes and large tubs of bits and terrain. It's all pretty handy - especially with a nice roller chair. The cabinet on the left will become my airbrush station (as before) and I'll be adding a pegboard backing above the desk for tools and I'll be trying to build a way to store all the plasticard channel, strips and tubes to make them easier to see and get to.

Here's a shot of the work bench. As I get more settled in and a bit more time, the lighting will get better as well. Eventually there will be power strips up each side of the desk and long gooseneck lamps to free up more work surface.

bommer109.jpg

Not sure how much work will actually get done though. Right around the corner (and I don't mean down the block - I mean right around the next corner of my basement) is Club D.O.A. Hole. Heheheheh.

bar1.jpg

bar2.jpg

An absolutely 1950's, vintage basement wet bar. We're looking around for an actual glass-doored beverage fridge and a keg fridge (like the Kegerator) to round it out. The neon under the bar is actually red and not pink as the pictures seem. We have some neon bar signs and a few more decorations at the other house but it's pretty much set up. This should be fun for the 40K days and Apocalypse battles in the basement.

I did leave one box of supplies I need at the storage place, I'll be picking it up this week. Soooo, this does mean the bommer is back in production! Yay!!!

Glad to see you post again, your thread is one of the few reasons I still check this site daily. The wet bar looks fantastic, too.

Nice to see you back and settling in there Suki. So you where in the 6 to 8 in band huh, I can see where moving would be a pain.

Actually, we were moving from the 11" band (Sartell) to the 8" band (St. Cloud). There was literally a 3" difference within 2 miles. Yeah, it really sucked. The good news, of course, is the bench is up and running. I'm hoping to maybe get some work done on the side gunners tonight and maybe start some skinning of the fuselage in the next couple of days.
