The Nodachi was not only used against cavalry. The Nodachi (in fact \"Oh d(t)achi\" =\"big Tachi\"=\"big sword\" ;I love Japanese simplicity) was invented purely for the purpose of a heavy wide range battle sword. A sword for open space battle. It wasn\'t used very often some even limit it to ceremonial functions.
Its real massive and you can only control it with two hands. You can switch with one hand but for the mighty blows you have to take both. (and you get tired real soon if you\'re not trained, hehehe)
Info I found: Biggest Nodachi is 3,77cm with an edgelength of 2,26. Its from 15th century. Wonder if anyone could really handle that monster of a sword!?
