I watch TV, mostly in the evening, there is really nothing good on in the day ,except maybe news on something that is happening real time in the world.. example, the Hurricane Karrina horror.

I love animal planet, discovery channel, sci-fi channel and history channel. I’m caught up in the “Deadliest Catch” a documentary on the Alaskan crab fishing.

Inside the Actors Studio (Don\'t laugh it can be very interesting and funny. ie Russell Crowe has a giggle like a schoolgirl.)
Miami Ink Some great inspiration for freehand there.
Most Haunted Ok It\'s garbage but addictive.
The Dresden Files I\'m blaming Donna (Wiccanpony ) for that.

(* Since Neil Gaiman has been mentioned in this thread I\'ll admit to being a fan (courtesy of Sandman) and have recently finished both Neverwhere & Smoke & Mirrors. The latter is a collection of his Short Stories. Not all are \"Comfortable Reads\" and in some cases he reminds me of Ian Banks. Definitley not a book to lend to the Maiden Aunts.
Just finished (today) Coyote & Coyote Rising by Alan Steele Mainstream Sci-fi at it\'s best. Now need to get Coyote Frontier to complete the story.
After that the first 10 Master & Commander Books by Patrick O\'Brian (Superb special deal from The Book People.)
Looks as if I\'m getting back into reading again. )

so I guess I shouldn’t mention the new TV shows “Blood Ties”, Tanya Huffs vampire books and “True Blood” Charlaine Harris southern Sookie Stackhouse (damn I love that name!) vampire books....

Moved into a new house, hmm, about 2 years ago now. Didn\'t have the spare cash to pay for pay TV and the tube\'s in the basement with no Antenna so no reception. Originally planned on getting Cable or Satellete but as the months went buy we noticed we weren\'t missing TV. So we never did get it back.

Now I have 2 TVs in my house, both in my family room. The reason, so my Wife can play PS2 while I play Xbox (or some other combination of video game system and DVD player).

The only \"TV\" I watch is on DVD. Recently just finished Deadwood and before that Rome.

As for Gaimen - my favourite was Good Omens, which he did with Terry Pratchet.

I have four TV\'s and usually more than one is on. We watch a TON of TV around the house.

I\'d love to say we don\'t, but that isn\'t being honest. The TV is on lots of time, just for company...sometimes no one is watching it.

A month or so ago, a major blizzard swept through here, and we lost power for about 4-5 hours....We lit candles, cranked on the battery powered radio and just sat together....then when the lights came back on, we all separated to different rooms to watch TV....Sad but true.

One last thing....what the hell is a Television License? You can\'t watch TV for free?

Yeah, we have something called Public Service Television (and Radio) that everyone have access to regardless of what cable/satellite/whatever company you use. The Public Service TV is funded by a license fee that everyone that owns a Television tuner (i.e. a TV set, a VCR/recordable DVD player or a TV card for the computer) must pay. It\'s like a tax, only it\'s not called a tax because Public Service must be free of governmental influence and taxes can only be collected by the government.

The good thing about this is that Public Service TV has no commercials and that they show things other than crappy reality shows, game shows, sitcoms or 10 year old Hollywood films that run for the sixth time on TV.

But, it\'s still not good enough to make me watch it. :innocent:

In Britain, there a 5 standard channels, channel 3, 4 and 5 have adverts and make money. Channel 1 and 2 run by the BBC don\'t, so they charge viewers instead of advertisers.
The law is that if you have any equipment recieving a signal you must pay, so TV\'s, computers with tuners etc... Though you don\'t need one for the radio or watchin DVD\'s or anything purchased.
Its about £125 a year for a colour license, and i think thats rising to £140 soon. Think how many books you could buy with that amount of bunce!

Wow! I had no idea TV licences exist.

With an Antena I would have about 32 free channels, with only one that\'s all paid advertising.

Here we have the option of sticking to free local chanels or getting some form of pay TV.

Now Pay TV offers tons of channels, some over 600, things like time shifting, recording, on demand and more so it\'s generally prefered over local TV, but Local is still there for those that want it.

Technically my smaller TV in the basement does get one channel. I call it the Judge Joe Brown channel since the last three times I put it on all it would get is Detroit 62 and all three times Judge Joe Brown was on it (even though it was at different times).

Though i must admit, the one time I watched quite a few hours of TV was when i was in Rome. Laura would fall asleep and I would just watch foriegn TV for hours, dunno why, i just love it. Plus it was shopping channels selling a steam cleaner and ironing board combo!

Basically NBC is the only stuff I really watch anymore. The odd episode of a few other shows get in there from time to time, but most of them I own on DVD so I can watch them whenever I want That reminds me, The Tick vs. Season II needs to come out before I start breaking things.

Obviously there\'s a bit of sports, movies, etc. on there every couple of days, but TV is really quite brutal these days. Wasn\'t there a time when there were actually things worth watching? I seem to remember that.

Oh yeah, and there\'s a few shows on Discovery/the Learning Channel that are cool to watch once in a while. I almost forgot about those

When I got married we lived without a TV. We stayed that way for at least 5 years. Then my wife was diagnosed with a chronic disease that meant she would be spending a lot of time off her feet.
So, we bought a La-z-boy and a DVD player and the inlaws bought us a TV (still refuse to pay for cable).

very funny story:
About a year after we got married, one of my wife\'s co-workers sort of invited herself over for dinner. We thought she was being social, wanting to get to know us or something.
Well, she and her husband walk into our house and attempt to pitch some direct marketing (read pyramid scheme) schlock to us and the husband pulls out the video tape....
and looks around....
and looks some more....
and just stands there stupified holding a videotape. They weren\'t able to give us the pitch and went home empty handed and my wife and I had a good laugh over it.
We still laugh thinking of the look on his face: \"you dont\' have a TV? who doesn\'t have a TV?\"

In a house of 5 people we have 10 TVs. Strange that I only watch about 2-3 hours a week on any of them.

Each of our three children have one in thier rooms yet we must have taught them enough restraint (or the programming is that bad) that none of them are overweight or inactive. We also have a home theater area that is usually only used for video games or movies.

My wife is the type of person who can multi-task with a television on. She can do her hobbies or clean or read with one on in the background. If I\'m in a room with a tv on I freeze and will stay immobile untill someone shoos me from the room. I usually paint/hobby/clean with my iPod on instead.

I personally think the quality of programming is my main reason for not watching too much TV. Heroes - Ugly Betty (I\'m not sure why) and Antiques Road Show on PBS. That\'s about it.
