Ten Commandments of painting....

So I\'ve been posting and learning a lot here in the last little while. I\'m much improved vs. when before I got here and I have been asked quite a bit about my newer painting.

So, to the point.... I would LOVE it if everyone here could think of some of the things you absolutely think are MUST follow rules for painting. I mean rules that without which you could never finish a fig to your standards, things you probably think are so standard and simple but really aren\'t followed all that much by gamer painters. Things I was thinking of...

-Always thin your paint
-Shake any paint cans for at least a minute
-Clean your brush and bring it to a point

If I\'m being truthful here I didn\'t do any of those for about 20 years before coming here. Hearing that sort of advice is one thing, but then actually SEEING the difference in quality tips like that make is another.

That kind of stuff. I wanted to put something together to put up on the wall at the LGS that hosts paint days. Anyone care to add to this, or discuss?

dont lick your model to clean off plastic that has been scraped away right after you have put super glue on it and sprayed it with zap a gap.

And also don\'t think that the best way to remove the encrusted superglue from the top of the nozzle is with your teeth. Unless you want to glue your tongue to them, of course. :|~

Personally if there were a few things i HAD to do to paint. They would be this.

-Use DISTILLED water.
- Prep model properly (not entirely necessary, but is good to do if you want a good paint job)
-Wipe excess paint OFF brush
- Make sure your pallette is CLEAN (don\'t leave dust or any little tidbits on it)
-Wear Glasses (i need to as my eyes un focus :p)
-DONT TOUCH THE MODEL WHILE PAINTING! (oil from your hands could ruin your paintjob)
-Use seperate wash cup for metallics (man when you have a metallic red cape its not fun... unless thats what your going for:p)
-Don\'t stick your brush in your mouth after you\'ve put it in terpentine ......ew...
-Don\'t accidently stick your brush in the cup yoru dirnking out of...:(
-Mix your metallic paints with a different brush then your normal acrylic paints (once again... metallic red cape..)
-Never stay too long in the same area as you are spraying your minis.. or else they\'ll start moving!

thats roughly it... other than that a decent brush is good. and a good pallette. Good paints are nice..

Remember these are all just my personal preferences. Others will vary :p

use suitable lighting
Always stick one end of a rod into a cork or something before clipping it, so the other end doesn\'t fly off.
