Always stick one end of a rod into a cork or something before clipping it, so the other end doesn\'t fly off.

Always respect and listen to feedback even if its not nice. Received feedback will mostly come from people who can paint better than you. They have their experience, so shut up, and listen to them :D

make sure that you never make the comment, \"man that is a very nicely sculpted demon butt!\" for you will attract the jokes of your other gamer friends who are painting with you and will NEVER let you live it down.

- THINK about your choice of color BEFORE you begin painting.
- don\'t drown your mini in primer (\"WTF! Where are the details?\")

I quoted someone from an article here on CMON. Seeing the \"s in the sentence. And I explained what I ment in the next sentences.

The Title of the thread says TEN commandments, how many have we heard so far, 50 ??

What are the top ten then....

I just wanted to pool some ideas. Things we wish we could\'ve gone abck in time and told ourselves when we started. Be it ten or 50. So far there\'s lots of good ones.

Gonna be different for nearly all of us. For example I totally disagree with a number of the serious suggestions so far; I don\'t think they should be on a list at all, much less in a top-ten!

cant we put all the advice together into one post, and pin that somewhere.
something lke a general thread with all the advice from the pro\'s here at CMON

I think that would save us a lot of How-do-i-do-this Threads.

on the other side, the How-do-i-do-this thread can be fun too.

It would be easier to refer to though...

Well I personally agree that there are some things here I wouldn\'t reccomend, but I think that\'s fair too. We can always bring that up....

But universal _suggestions_ so far that I would put on a list and hang over an aspiring painters station so far include.....

-Clean that model! Remove flash carefully, sand and file, look at the piece from every angle. Inspect once primed and go back to the begining if need be

-Clean water! Use clean water for cleaning brushes. Change your water every session.

-Use a different water jar for metalics! I personally in 20+ years hadn\'t bothered with this, until last week I saw some metal flakes on some dwarf skin I was painting.

-Thin your paint! Get used to thinning paint and mutliple coats for a smooth clean finish

-Patience! Spend time enjoying the process of paitning rather than rushing for the finished model (Something I struggle with)

-Respect your brushes! Keep that brush clean and to a point. \"This is my paintbrush, there are many like it but this one is mine.....\"

-Have FUN! Of course this seems like a no brainer but I many times I\'ve found projects really feel like a chore and trying to continue with those projects out of a sense of completion has just stymied my love for the hobby.

So that\'s kind of the ones I would use for now, and I wouldn\'t mind finding some others for the list.

Einion et all- Disagreeing is permitted here! Let\'s here some talk about the process. The goal is to put a list together that I can hang at the LGS where there are often get togethers of painters and I wouldn\'t mind having this up on the wall.

would you mind posting the final list here as well, might be a good tool for starting painters, and a nice reference/reminder for those who have already mastered the art of mini painting.

i know ill sound like a dream crusher, but tbh i think that if a final list is reached then its goning to have be pretyy basic for everyone to agree on it, then agian maybe not, and it could be pretty heplfull

It is meant to be basic. Real basic stuff that I wish I knew for the last 20 years before I came here...

Y\'know, stuff like thorughly shake your paint etc.
