I just wanted to extend a big thank you to those that run CMON for providing such a great place for us to share our hobby and to all those here that make it such an inspiartional place, those who submit all their amazing work, to those who offer constant advice in the fora.

I feel my painting has come on leaps and bounds, thank you all :)

at the very least the experts can use my minis as what-not-to-do references.

and newer painters can get ideas on how to AVOID making the mistakes i do.

you forget YOU have contributed to others as well Trevor. :]

I paint alot in many mediums and know alot of people who appreciate art but know almost no one who is REALLY into creating art. It\'s been very refreshing to be amongst people who are equally enthused about DOING art and have so many good and kind suggestions. It\'s such a valuable resource to have people who have actually done something or used a certain product instead of store clerks who simply know which isle that product is on....um, ya know sorta.

Life beyond drybrushing... I\'ve heard of tweaning, somewhere on these forums, not sure where, but I\'m not exactly sure what it is. Anyone? :innocent:

What this forum has done is made me more adventurous, gotten me to try different things, given me inspiration and technique. On mini painting, GW\'s book was the alpha, CMON is the omega.

I must say that this wonderful site has helped my painting abilities 10 fold.

There is a downside...

When I found this site, I had never heard of NMM and thought drybrushing was a good technique. In the past, I would pick up a mini and happily paint it, blissfully unaware of all the mistakes I was making and techniques I was missing out on. Now I am reluctant to pick up a brush..:flip:

I see a couple of people just baiting me... ;)

I share the sentiment of appreication here. My painting skills have grown quite a bit as a result of this site.

As for the \"what is tweening\" question...

(chugs a couple of shots of rum)

It\'s basically a layering technique, where after you slap your layers on, you go back and thin the crap out of your paints and glaze over the layer boundaries. Doing this softens the transition, and it\'s actually a lot easier to do than wet blending, and I get pretty similar results.

I swear, after this quarter is over, I will write up an article on it. But, if you do a search in the forums here, you should be able to find other posts with me babbling on about it and providing a link or two to some other sites mentioning this technique (even though they don\'t call it by the funky name).

I was in the same boat, Finn. Heck I did not even know what washing or glazing was. So that being said the 1st few mini\'s that I painted had these nice little white spots were the paint would not get to. :D

i would like to echo that. i now know how crap my painting is yet i am still coming on quite a lot- my first mini is a 4.5 and my latest is about 6.8. hows that for improvement eh? i hope to get a 7+ by the end of the year

You\'ve likely given a \'why not\' reason before, but seriously, what would it take for us to get you back into painting instead of just wallflowering, finn?

Gotta paint

I have to tell everyone that I\'m not a painter - at least not yet. My husband, Scott/Grumb, is the mini painter and has tried for years to get me to paint. (He\'s painted off and on since he was a teenager.) I know he\'s learned so much from this site that he paints more now than he probably did all those years put together. He\'s also gotten so much support and made friendships through CMON that I had to join to just so I\'d know who he was talking to/about.

I joined about a month or so ago and now the painting bug has hit me. In fact, last night I dreamed I was painting a mini and had some great ideas. That would have never happened if Scott and I hadn\'t joined CMON. So actually, I don\'t know if I should thank everyone or curse you! lol

Anyway, when Scott gets back from Berlin he\'s going to teach me how to paint and when I finish a piece I\'ll post it - maybe...
