Yes, friends, this is it, what you\'ve been waiting for: The FInal & Definative Word on a Variety of Subjects After spending much of Monday catching up on threads from over the weekend and much of yesterday digesting what I read, I am now prepared to issue my opinion, for which I know you\'ve all been waiting with baited breath. (What exactly is \"baited breath\" anyways? Does it smell like tuna?)
There were numerous threads that seemed to stress the very fabric of CMON: Spam Attack, Spam Sarnies, Thick SKin, Chill People Chill, etc. I considered replying in each of them, but frankly, I\'m too lazy.
THat\'s not a very good sounding excuse, though, so instead I\'ll point out that they all seem, in one way or another, to be attempts to define what CMON is or should be at its core. That sounds a lot better, doesn\'t it?
One of the wonderful things about CMON, especially the Forums, is that what it is is pretty much defined by us, the users. Its an amalgam of all our opinions; nobody\'s completely right or completely wrong. THe good news in that is that you are just as right as anybody else. The bad news is that all those a@@holes who disagree with you are just as right as you are. This is a good thing.
99 percent of the time (hmm, now where\'d I get that statistic from) we are pretty much allowed free rein. The moderation policy, stated or otherwise, seems to be to let us sort it out amongst ourselves. This is also a good thing IMO. The other one percent... well [shrug] if they didn\'t intervene once in a while, they wouldn\'t really be moderators, would they? MOst of the time, all they do is offer their own opinions which really carry little or no more weight than anybody else\'s other than whatever person respect they\'ve garnered for themselves in the community. I really don\'t think that anyone here is in awe of SuperFinnReach just because of the \"Moderator\" tag under thier names. And, again, this is a good thing. Yes, they have \"The Power\" to sway things one way or another, but most of the time choose not to utilize it. (I threw \"utilize\" in there just for you, Vince)
As for all the people on all sides trying to insist that \"everyone else\" should believe and act just as they do...
May I remind you that Free speech isn\'t measured by what extravagances you allow those who agree with you, but with the amount of latitude you allow those who disagree with you. Other than obvious direct cruel personal attacks, we\'re pretty much allowed to say what we want. (In fact, a certain amount of that is actually allowed to slip through, too.) Please try to remember that the other Forum denizens have the same right to say what they want as you do. It always bugs me when I see people calling for someone to shut up or for for someone to be forcibly shut up or for threads to be closed because someone doesn\'t agree with it. Does that mean I wish people wouldn\'t say those things? Of course. Does that mean that I want people who say those things to be made to shut up? Of course NOT!!
WEll, there you have it. Being as this is the Final & Definative Word on a Variety of Subjects, there\'s really no need for any of you peons to post any replies.
