The Final & Definative Word...

Yes, friends, this is it, what you\'ve been waiting for: The FInal & Definative Word on a Variety of Subjects After spending much of Monday catching up on threads from over the weekend and much of yesterday digesting what I read, I am now prepared to issue my opinion, for which I know you\'ve all been waiting with baited breath. (What exactly is \"baited breath\" anyways? Does it smell like tuna?)

There were numerous threads that seemed to stress the very fabric of CMON: Spam Attack, Spam Sarnies, Thick SKin, Chill People Chill, etc. I considered replying in each of them, but frankly, I\'m too lazy. :D THat\'s not a very good sounding excuse, though, so instead I\'ll point out that they all seem, in one way or another, to be attempts to define what CMON is or should be at its core. That sounds a lot better, doesn\'t it?

One of the wonderful things about CMON, especially the Forums, is that what it is is pretty much defined by us, the users. Its an amalgam of all our opinions; nobody\'s completely right or completely wrong. THe good news in that is that you are just as right as anybody else. The bad news is that all those a@@holes who disagree with you are just as right as you are. This is a good thing.

99 percent of the time (hmm, now where\'d I get that statistic from) we are pretty much allowed free rein. The moderation policy, stated or otherwise, seems to be to let us sort it out amongst ourselves. This is also a good thing IMO. The other one percent... well [shrug] if they didn\'t intervene once in a while, they wouldn\'t really be moderators, would they? MOst of the time, all they do is offer their own opinions which really carry little or no more weight than anybody else\'s other than whatever person respect they\'ve garnered for themselves in the community. I really don\'t think that anyone here is in awe of SuperFinnReach just because of the \"Moderator\" tag under thier names. And, again, this is a good thing. Yes, they have \"The Power\" to sway things one way or another, but most of the time choose not to utilize it. (I threw \"utilize\" in there just for you, Vince)

As for all the people on all sides trying to insist that \"everyone else\" should believe and act just as they do... :p May I remind you that Free speech isn\'t measured by what extravagances you allow those who agree with you, but with the amount of latitude you allow those who disagree with you. Other than obvious direct cruel personal attacks, we\'re pretty much allowed to say what we want. (In fact, a certain amount of that is actually allowed to slip through, too.) Please try to remember that the other Forum denizens have the same right to say what they want as you do. It always bugs me when I see people calling for someone to shut up or for for someone to be forcibly shut up or for threads to be closed because someone doesn\'t agree with it. Does that mean I wish people wouldn\'t say those things? Of course. Does that mean that I want people who say those things to be made to shut up? Of course NOT!!

WEll, there you have it. Being as this is the Final & Definative Word on a Variety of Subjects, there\'s really no need for any of you peons to post any replies.

First of all, shut up.

Second of all, I didn\'t know you knew that many words....

LOL

Nice speech. \"Tongue planted in cheek\" is my normal way of reading just about everything on this forum. Maybe that will get me in trouble someday...

Damnit Supervike, what a pile! :D

Honestly, I don\'t think my problem with peoples posts is that I so much think that they are wrong, or bad people, but rather I think their posts are just very boring. So after a couple attempts trying to figure out what they\'ve said is in any way interesting to me, failing and resenting the wasted time, I start skipping what they write, then threads they start, and as this grows, start to skip the forums altogether, since it fills up with useless crap. (just to name names here) What is the point of a thread about 400 posts, what innane boring shit is that! Anyway, that makes me sad, since I like the forums.

Ever think about hiding post count? Another forum I was on long ago got out of hand on post padding, they hid the counts, and suddenly the quality of the forum skyrocketed. Just a thought, but I could be wrong, and people like reading threads about hitting 400 posts...

Agreed!!! Let\'s get the freaking post count killed... (Relic\'s forums doesn\'t have that eg.)

@Supervike: ROFL!

Just as everyone settles down into an alert nonchalance, supervike comes and starts a new thread because he was too damn lazy to reply in the others. Lazy indeed. Nearly 3000 posts, and he says he\'s lazy. He starts the WA thread, and says he\'s lazy. Pompous, arrogant git.

@dauber and vike: you do me little \'ed in, you does! lol

Well said Dauber.

I am amazed that Vike disagreed.

Well said, Vike... I mean Daub... I mean.... ...
.. Hey, You!

And I don\'t agree with you at all on one point!

It\'s \"bated\" breath, not \"baited\". (Geez, man, get a dictionary!)

And you were sounding so intelligent there for a second. :(

:p

Dauber22: Nicely put.

I\'ll have a pint of what he\'s been drinking, please.

AFAIK \"Bated Breath\" is derived from Abated as in, to hold your breath.

Maybe we should change the name of this forum to \"General Drivel\"?

Hmmm, General Drivel - sound like a G.I. Joe character reject....

:D

No, that was General Dribble. You poured water in the top of his head and is slowly seeped out around the corners of his mouth. It didn\'t play well in focus groups as the kids kept squeezing his head to see if they could make him gleek.
