Indeed

If someone pays $140 for a plastic minis with some molded grreenstuff on it or drybrushed minis for $100 it\'s their business...

I won\'t buy this mat though , or anything from GW with their original prices :D

In fact I wouldn\'t buy anything of the GW stuff if not my discounts ;)

I don\'t think that lumps of plastic and metal are worth this much...

Hey, don\'t give them any ideas. Next thing you know they will be requiring you to use this mat for tournament play.

Exactly what I was going to say. If people are willing to pay 20 Euros for it, then that\'s what it\'s worth. Noone\'s forcing you to buy their crap, so stop complaining. If GW sets its prices too high or too low it\'s only going to harm them in the end. DVDs also cost practically nothing to produce but often sell for 20 dollars or more.

First of all I like to point out that I\'m not complaining. I don\'t buy GW products so I don\'t care how much they charge!

But, I must object to the casual \"supply-and-demand\" bullshit arguments that always pop up in discussions like this (I mean no offense to anyone here, mind you :)). I\'m forcing myself here not to go into a complete ranting about this subject, because, believe me... I\'ve got plenty to say here! ;) Instead I will just say that the supply-and-demand \"law\", just as any of the economists so-called laws or theories, pretty much assumes that people always act rationally. We all know that\'s not true...

This post is a waste of time IMO... Buy it, don\'t buy it... but if you wanna complain about it, complain to GW... or better yet, ask them how the \"towel\" is made...

I still don\'t get it, is it a towel or is it a gaming area? ... hehe...

Anyways, it looks awefully detailed....

Come back and complain when they change the rules again, so whole armies become useless... that is where you can complain... this is just a waste of time..

I never mentioned the \"law\" of supply and demand. I agree that it\'s at best a gross oversimplification of reality. But that\'s really irrelevant to what I\'m saying.

Who cares if people act \"rationally\" or not, it\'s their money, and if they think twenty dollars is reasonable for a painted plastic mat, then to them it is worth that much. Like Vike said, noone is forcing people to buy it. I\'m sure many people would consider the amount of money I spend on minis and mini-paraphernalia to be irrational.

Darn, I really have become a full-blooded liberal, haven\'t I? lol

The fact that the people who willingly pay a certain price for a product think the product is worth that price is not equivalent with saying the price IS worth that price period. It\'s not as simple as that.

Yep, Sebastian, you do sound like a rabid liberal! :D

Mmmm, well, this has been a discussion in politics for over a hundred years, so I doubt we\'ll come to an agreement here! :)

In my opinion, a thing is \"worth\" what the consumer thinks it\'s worth and is willing to pay for it. I disagree with those who think a product is \"worth\" what it cost to produce. But that\'s really a difference in opinions about how to evaluate things. There is no \"objective\" worth.

Of course there\'s no objective worth, since \"worth\" is a constructed parameter. I don\'t think a product is worth what it costs to produce it, but just as little do I believe it is worth what the people who chose to buy it are willing to pay for it. But, maybe we should discuss this over lunch some day instead of here? ;) It\'s too bothersome to type everything down... :innocent:

@tooshy
lol I must say I\'m not entirely certain what your point was, but it made me laugh nevertheless!

I paint my thumb.
I think I heard that somewhere, before...

You know, we should have a single \"sticky\" thread for complains on insane GW prices... or a whole section GW rants with that thread in it, it would probably grow faster than the PYP lol

@Hash, I like your Idea, sounds like civil disobedience which in my view is the best form of revendication. It actually has more chances to produce some result than posting in endless \'GW rant\' thread

Edit: Ritual, I think tooshy was refering to the title of the thread ;)

Edit2:Isn<t there some \"common sense ruling\" on pricing... something like 30%material 30%Producion fees 30% profit (Example) ??? I think I read about that once...

Not really. A company is free to charge whatever it wants, and companies usually charge as much as they think will yield the most total profit.

Well, logically ( Not to say I would not do the same to some extent.)
I meant \"common sense ruling\" on a customer\'s side, like.. if it\'s more than that, you\'re getting screwed, no excuses.

Yet again, if the market is alright with getting screwed... let them be.

But that is the whole beauty of the supply and demand theory.

The marketplace ALWAYS decides the worth of something. If it can\'t bear the price, it will go the way of the tulips...These self corrections are necessary for the market to continue to work. Its a genius system, and I daresay infallable. Now, I won\'t cross the line and say that it is always ethical. Too many greedy types do take advantage of it, but the demand always drives it.

Rationality (or the lack of it) of consumers has everything to do with it.

Since I cannot have lunch with you or Sebastian, we\'ll have to keep the conversation here....lol

Actually, I believe economists assume GROUPS act rationally but people may act irrationally. Strangely enough, aside from mob violence, this works out to be true.

The market economy is pretty far from being an infallable system. That\'s what (predominantly liberal) economists would have people believe. That it\'s like gravitation. It always works and it always works the same way. But their theories are pretty crude simplifications and contains simply too many attempts to rationalise the irrationality of human behaviour. I simly don\'t have the energy to keep a dialouge about this going over the internet, and regrettably, we can\'t lunch together so let\'s leave this subject. At least for now... :)

The fallability comes in when people make artificial limitations on the market. The one that keeps coming to my mind due to political reasons in the USA is illegal imigrant workers. People complain about illegal immigrants driving the wages down. However, restrictions on the import of labor is an artificial limitation on the market. If all immigration restrictions were removed, there would be no illegal workers. Which means management could not use the threat of deportation to reduce wages.
Supply and demand kicks in because more workers in the country means labor becomes cheaper. So closing the borders is an artificial way of reducing the supply while keeping demand inflated.

Unless the Government steps in with tarrifs or support or mandated pricing.

If Supply/Demand economics were turned loose, gasoline would have been $10 a gallon during the hurricanes, but the government has rules about price gouging in times of emergency.

And buggy whip manufacturers were given government assistance around 1900 when there business was off for some reason (automobiles don\'t need buggy whips?)

Pff it\'s not about - you don\'t like it don\'t buy it ;)
It\'s about the respect towards customers - if they think that people are so stupid to agree every price they dictate they lack the respect ;)

So what do you think ? Should we begin a full scale forum war with GW?
I think they wouldn\'t be glad to see 100 people posting some threads \' why are the minis so expensive / the quality is so low?

:D:D:D

This could be a breakthrough - every post criticising GW was shut very quick on their forums :D

Whaddya think ladz?lol
