Yeah, but what people are willing to pay for something varies a lot from person to person. For the most part, I have no idea what the things I\'m buying cost to produce. I base my evaluation of what I\'m willing to pay on how much I want the item in question! When it comes to minis I\'m generally willing to pay quite a lot for the things I want, and if that means I\'m a sucker, then so be it!

Market economy, like any political ideology, is basically a utopia. It relies on a set of general assumptions that may seem probable but can not generally be proven. And, one of the biggest flaws of the market economical ideology is that the actors in the so-called market, once they\'re strong and wealthy enough, do their very best to put the market economy out of action to further gain their interests. I\'m not saying there are other economical or political ideas that are perfect, or better for that matter, only that market economy is not the perfect solution that many claim it to be.

I hated micro economy :/
People do what other do because it\'s just trendy.
They will pay any amount if it\'s widely accepted , even though it\'s not worth it.
Look at the brushes- artists use brushes for approx $2 and they think they are expensive - I personally use brushes for about $10 - Winsor & Newton series 7 - artist say that they are expensive - for me they aren\'t...

Also paints of other companies are like 50 ml for the price of GW\'s 12ml...

The paints are basicly the same and even some of them are better...

The brand name is about 3/4 of the price

There are different views of what is expensive and what not...

@Seb, You\'re getting screwed with the minis.
But you take them home and enjoy painting them for far more than you paid ( I just suppose you do.) and GW don\'t put a price on that, so it\'s worth it. But those that buy them just to play don\'t have that, and they need to get A LOT of them...

You\'re right of course, Anders, but until GW puts a bolter to my head and forces me to buy their stuff, I\'m not complaining The market economy has lots of problems, like any economic system, probably the greatest of which is its continual cycle of boom and bust. But no matter how powerful you are, you can\'t force people to pay more than they\'re willing to (at least not under any normal circumstances). And companies that charge unreasonably high prices usually find themselves outcompeted by other companies sooner or later, no matter how aggressive they are at preventing competition.

In the mean time I happily give my money to companies like Hasslefree who LOWERS their prices on some products once they have paid off their intial production costs.

@ Seb - GW has 30 years of history...

You won\'t stop buying at a shop you know from your birth
It was alway there and it became like a native environment for gamers...

Lets face the truth - which prize is the most imporant?

Which company you first heard of?

Which minis you first had


As I aid before - GW stopped being a bunch of hobbysts - It became a company.
It\'s not more by gamers for gamers...
It\'s only for $$ now...

This applies to all fields of gaming ( Tabletop, video, etc.) they run the companies the same way as id they we\'re selling auto parts or peanut butter. But fun and interest cannot be laid flat on a graph, thus games and fun in all their definitions are dying slowly.

Luckily, the game is still there, minis are still fun to paint, Dwarves are still proud and stern... fun is still legal cause some make it lucrative.

Let them have their money, let us have our fun.

Well I say I as usually say.. look around at the world and say to my face that this system is infallable.

I won\'t say no more as it is a very difficult discussion to have. I\'ve stuided economic history and I\'m writing a paper right now on rational choice theory so I really should say something.. But everytime I start on something the reply get so long Maybe if I find the strength tomorrow.

@ hash: gw has a lot of factories also in china (the mat is produced in china just like codex and rulebooks, now many plastic sets will be produced in china too)

@ Tony - look at the inside of the codexes - mine are all printed in the UK - like the Black Library books...

All my boxes - whichg I have planty of - say - made in the U.K. ( God bless the Queen )

Oh we can also start complaining about price and content of the codex books - like 25$ for almost nothing...

Before you paid 10$ and got a book with 400 pages:/ covering everything for every system... (like The Lost and The Damned)

I get so fed-up with the \"I hate GW\" threads, so I thought I\'d just lighten up the mood a little. I agree with someone here - if you get pi55ed off with GW, just don\'t buy their stuff. There are lots of great manufacturers out there now so you do have a choice

PS I think the thing you are talking about is a gaming mat - not a towel. I had visions of a nice fluffy spacemarine imortalised in towelling that I could parade around the beach... sorry have I ruined the serious discussion again... :innocent:

Only one or two things are made outside of the uk and that\'s purely down to economics why buy all the kit train all the staff then find something doesn\' sell.....
GW are going quite the opposite to most companies and producing their own stuff..The plastics are now all produced in Lenton except cases and a couple of other bits.. and also factory in the US the chinese stuff has been painted resin pieces scenery etc...one offs.

Also about the price I agree you have a right to moan and also agree if you don\'t want it don\'t buy it..It\'s a catch 22 but if it doesn\'t sell it will be cheaper look at the chapel of sanctuary they dropped the price on that due to poor sales at original price.

casually i know how cost to produce a plastic tissue because my uncle has a factory of this material... it really doesn\'t cost nothing, the only thing that can raise the cost a little it\'s the time spent to do the picture to print

So your saying that GW should give away these things, for the production cost? Or... are they actually allowed to make a profit off it? You have no idea what lies behind releasing an item in a company do you? It\'s not only about getting the item done, there are thousands of things that needs to be contemplated..

20 Euro might be too much, but that is the price they have set... So like it, or don\'t like it... if noone buys it, it will be removed... easy as that!
