*cough cough* questionaboutthebook*coughcough*

*sneaks back into the thread, careful not to make any sudden movements*

So, erm, wasn\'t there a rumor that someone important is going to die in this installment of the book? Or is that a defunct rumor? Or am I confused? I didn\'t have my coffee this morning... that may be part of it...

Someone important died in the book before last, but since the kid was only introduced in the book before he wasn\'t all that crucial. Children dying in children\'s books, something you never see here in the states. lol

Well, I remember that part. But I thought they were saying there was going to be yet another death. I very well may be mistaken. I haven\'t been keeping up with my book rumors... I\'ll just have to start reading when I get the book at midnight, I guess! :D

Anybody of the opinion that we should ban books or censor books from children for their protection needs to read Ender\'s Game by Orson Scott Card. This book is about a genius boy, but, the author prefaces it by pointing out how little the respect for childrens intelligence is. I have seen 6 year old children taking drugs away from their parents trying to get the parents back on track. I have seen a 9 year old boy send his mother to jail for continued drug use. And probably some of you have also witnessed a young man stand up to his father who is beating a sibling or mother. Even young children can be intelligent human beings. As an assistant to a youth group leader I have found that I am more respected among the teens simply becuase I respect their opinions. I show them the respect that they deserve and don\'t get from the general populace and they treat me just fine. Teens can be intelligent too. We shouldn\'t protect children from life. We just need to be there to make sure things are going all right.

I also have opinions about the pope, the bashing of all \"christianity\", and catholicism but this is not the time or place. (I do like to argue those points too)

The last thing that really gets me going is when \"christian\" magazines denounce something as evil. Biblically, a person is not to judge others but themselves. To call something evil would be to pass judement, which is God\'s job. To call someone evil is to compare them to yourself, (unless you call everyone evil - then you would accurately be comparing them to God as He says \"all have sinned\") which is God\'s job. I haven\'t found a single place in the Bible where it is written thou shalt not dance, play GTA, and read Harry Potter.

@KatanaAngel: Well, HP\'s Godfather dies in the fifth book, he\'s also quite an important character. It is a fact someone important is gonna die in the new one as well, and I hear British bookies are taking bets on who (I think Dumlbedore is in the lead)...

I heard a rumor Harry loses his virginity in this book. Any word?

p.s. That\'s it! JimG you are now banned from any further mini exchanges! Nor shall you again be allowed to lift a brush. Men in black suits will be round to your place shortly to confiscate all of your minis (and give them to me).
--That\'s what you get for accusing this list of having many intelligent people on it:p

@Quietimanes:

Once again, re-read the post I made. God did know what was going to happen, he wanted Abraham to understand how far Abraham would go in his obedience. The part about love equating to sacrifice is precisely the religious definition. I\'m sure you won\'t find that in any dictionary. I was explaining a biblical point you seemed to misunderstand in a previous thread, no more, no less.

Could some nice soul out there take pity on me and arrange to send me the new harry potter book with a shipping fee lower then the outragous one amazon is trying to impose on me. See I started my collection in the US with the hard backs and since I really find that edition nice and don\'t really want to break up the nice line on my shelf i need to get the US version of the book :rolleyes: So anyway if anyone is willing to help out please send me a PM :) Otherwise I\'ll have to wait 4 months for my father to go to the US :~(

2 things Abraham and surveys

Actually, part of the reason behind that particular episode was because Abraham had moved from what is now Iraq to what is now Israel and the indigenous tribes that would later become known as Phoenicians and Canaanites practiced the ritualized murder of their firstborn sons. All of their temples to Baal and the like have a newborn skeleton under the altar. So this was also God making a statement about the requirements of his religion. No child sacrifice.

Secondly I would like to discuss my previous post. I made those points because it seems a lorge number of people on our little planet are finding hate mongering quite easy. Read about the survey of Muslim opinions of Jews and Christians in many of today\'s papers. Listen to America\'s Fox news spew hatred against Liberals- when the country is at war and needs to band together even the TV stations bandy internal hate.... Even on these very posting boards I have heard Liberal slurs - how much more can we fine tune epithets?

I dunno. It just seems so easy to say such things without realizing the long term implications especially when we would never say such things to people\'s faces.

Finally, back to Harry. I expect my book by overnight parcel (I ordered it from AMAZON airmail) and I will finish it by Sunday.

Here is my prediction. Dumbledor will die. Why? Because (in the Author\'s words) he is the only one that Voldemort ever feared. If Harry is truly the hero of the books he has to face Voldemort alone in the final installment....

My two cents.

making dumbledor die could be a rational point, but in my opinion it wouldn\'t go down well with the readers. Of course the other as been saying that this book might not please everyone and that she wanted to please herself first, but somhow I can\'t see dumbledor dying.
And my guess for the half bloof prince goes to hagrid, since this book is suposed to have strong ties with the chamber of secrets, and hagrid beeing one of the main caracters there....

He goes through a portal but you dont actually see him die. Until I get a vivid description of his cold lifeless corpse I will not believe it.

I just don\'t get the fascination with harry potter. Could someone explain it to me? What\'s the deal? I\'m not that interested in reading it, or watching the movies, but everyone seems to be going berzerk for the book.

Really, What\'s the big deal?

Talking about religon is just asking for trouble if you ask me. Wow, even the word Nazi has cropped up. tut, tut. Lets just let our children read what they enjoy reading under our guidance. Personally i don\'t worship nothing but what i see, feel and hear oh and taste ( i can\'t forget that one). We should be thankfull for that. Whooa i should start a cult or something. Anyone interested? :idea:

He\'s Harry Freakin\' Potter!!!!

I heard Hermione pulls a train for Malfoy and his friends. They gang-rape her to get even with Harry for sending Malfoy\'s father to prison.Oh... and harry loses his virginity to Ron...

;)lol

Believe that and I got a bridge to sell ya\'

I was going to comment on the whole God-testing-our-faith thing. This is one of the things I had the biggest problem with when I left the church. But I decided not to go off on another long post like so many others here have; keep it light people. God gave us a damn good planet, just enjoy it. :D

@Philologus

Fair enough, I wasnt aware it was done for Abrahams knowledge. But it doesnt change my point, which was that the whole thing is sick and twisted. Would you work for someone if they said \"ok now kill your kid\" even if they stopped you when you tried to do it? Would you want someone working for you who would kill their kid for you if you asked? I guess I\'m just pointing out that there are worse things for a child to read out there, some of which are in the bible. And I didnt miss the \"biblical point\", I did make mention of the possibility that the dictionary is wrong. They cant both, Gods belief in the Bible and the entire worlds belief in the Dictionary, be right can they? Again, just my opinion, but there you have it.

@Monolith

I was the same as you until I saw the first movie. I think friends pushed me into seeing it, I forget, but I was pretty anti-Harry Potter prior to that. Well I liked the movie, it suprised me that it wasnt anything like some craptacular Disney \"Herby\" or the monkey who plays hockey movie. Havent read the books, but it\'s on my \"to do\" list. The lure of Harry Potter is due to a number of things I\'d imagine. The \"hype\" is a big large push in that regard I\'m sure. The media has had a field day with the series, praising it in the begining for being such an uplifting book from a relatively unknown author, then a mix of praising and bashing it with the whole \"Pope\" deal and the church and all the \"experts\" chiming in. I mean look at this thread alone. Sparking all kinds of side rants and discussions. I saw Rowling on TV talking about how she \"respected childrens intelligence\" as one of the reasons the books were popular. It also appeals to a very large market, children, teens, parents, adults, males and females, fantasy and sci-fi and even to people who really arent into fantasy and sci-fi. I dont think there are many books that are as widely accepted or fill as many niches.

@quietimanes:

Thanks for your reply; if you read the first post I made in this thread I think you\'ll see that you and I agree greatly. Whatever a child reads; it is the resopnsibility of the parent to temper that reading with discussion. That\'s why I love this forum-alot of good discussion. Even though you may not agree with me I will end this post by hoping that you and yours are blessed.

I\'m a real \"Bad Boy\" at heart y\'know, wear black all the time, swear, drink and smoke etc...

At least this thread has given me the idea for my next bad boy tattoo...

Harry Potter

The new \"official\" face of evil. Feel bad for my mates, what with their tattoos of the Grim Reaper, Skulls and Xbones, Barbed Wire, Pitbulls etc... they\'ll all be jealous of my new hard tattoo. I bet it will drive the girlfriends parents mad with disgust! Perfect! lol
