I say f*ck all religion! It\'s not something I need in my life, and it\'s not something most people really \'need\'. They just think they need it! Want to complicate your life and be unhappy? Pick a religion! I don\'t religion to f*ck with my head, life in general can do that for me. I don\'t need a book and a costume to to add to that! Ban religion, the world would be a happier, safer place. And just seeing as this thread was originally aimed at the Christian lot I\'d like to point out that a good number of the Christians I\'ve met (mostly at university) were all f*ck ups in some way! Not one was a \'well rounded individual\', and part of their problem was their religion.

Dumbledore would be my guess as the sacrifice for better ratings. He is the only person to have a chance against Valdemort as stated previously. But, he is also the only cast member to have died while filming the movies. I don\'t think JK Rowling is concerned with any of the other cast members dropping off. Though she might need to make sure that Emma Watson doesn\'t have a close encounter with a young fellow. Some people are counting down the days.

My wife finished it four hours ago. I figured I\'d get two days of peace to paint but she reads to quick.
At least I have a come back next time she has a go about loitering in GW. She was the only adult at the unpacking without a child in tow lol

there is a story that during the last census done by the u.k. government about enough people putting their religion down as Jedi to make it a recognised religion. Was it true? I have no idea, but it made me smile.
religion is human nature, it loves and it destroys in equal measure.
I think that there is a lot of distrust for catholicism in the U.K. because from the age of five christianity is thrust upon us, hymns at assembly followed by a quick prayer is pretty much the staple of schools across the country. We identify cahtolicism/christianity as just another part of the system. christianity is the religion of our government.

I\'m currently waiting for my wife to finish the new book before I get the chance to get my grubby little hands on it.
For those who are really into the series like we are, I recommend a book called The Plot Thickens: Harry Potter Investigated By Fans for Fans. Many many interesting theories about where the books are going, plot-wise.
My original thought on the half-blood prince was Hagrid, but there\'s a very convincing argument in the Plot Thickens book that it will turn out to be Argus Filch, the caretaker at Hogwart\'s. Lots of very well-conceived theories about Aunt Petunia and just how much she knows about the magical world, as well, including that she might be a squib, or might in fact be a witch in \'hiding\'. Quite interesting, IMO.

Well I did not buy my copy today. Not that I am going to buy it anyways. Instead I bought book 4 of R.A. Salvatore\'s War of the Spider Queen, Extinction. Its got good stuff, murder, mayhem, Gods trying to kill other Gods and Drow!
Is adult literature really so poor that it leads people to salivate over the filth that is Potter? I’ve only read the first, so I suppose it could have drastically changed and improved, but the Enid Blytonesque jolly public school japes really didn’t satisfy me in the slightest. In fact they made me feel rather unwell.
Please tell me you don’t read the versions with the more mature covers that allow adults (who are guilty about reading such god awful children’s stories) to feel less identifiable and tit like.
As you can probably tell I have nothing but dislike for the boy wizard. It’s not just that it bored the hell out of me though, it’s that people herald it as such a wondrous creation because it gets children into books. Bullshit, it gets them into Potter. Once they are done with that they don’t investigate the work of other authors, they wait for the next JK Rowling effort. I swear they must lace the pages with crack.

@Jambot13: I agree about the getting kids into reading part. The children I know that read Potter don\'t necessarily develop the propensity to read other works. They do drool over each new episode of Harry though.

But about reading one author and not wanting to switch, I\'ve been in that predicament a lot of times. I\'ve got a thing for Kingsley Amis at the moment and I can\'t seem to get into any other stuff. I\'m on a farm for a week and brought The Green Man along to read. When I\'ve finished that I\'ve got Steinbeck\'s The Grapes of Wrath to read as well as a book by the great Aldous Huxley (you know, the fella who wroteBrave New World) but I really can\'t be buggered to read them, such is my addiction to Amis. When I was a kid I read all the Blyton books by a very young age and then loads of other crap I picked up at fairs and fetes, but it was always author by author lol
So what kids do is what I still do. It happened with Milan Kundera, Huxley (ironically), Tolkien (read LOTR 4 times in school because I didn\'t want to try any other books in library class), Donaldson, Golding and shit-loads of other authors. The problem particularly with fantasy is the vogue \'trilogy\' system. I\'d like to see some bastard just write decent one-offs each time rather than building their own fecking utopia!
But still, anything that gets kids away from the goggle-box (telly) is mint.
And about religion, I\'ve become quite liberal in recent years since leaving the church in 1997. Much more tolerant. I respect every mother-loving religion. I just don\'t like twats lol

@reverend: I used to do that too. I must have read all of Kurt Vonnegut\'s books 4 times each when I was in junior high and high school. I was also hooked on the grail legends and mabinogion when a youngster.

never read Potter, never will. I read books on quantum mechanics and the universe ( brief history of time, Hawkins, The Iron sun, Berry etc.....) does this allow me to look down my nose at you for reading fantasy novels?
People are free to chose what they read as much as the religion that they subscribe to, without idiots berrating them for their choice of subject matter.
