The road to Madness or Delight - Ogre Shooters done, starting next project

Coral? Are you meme'ing me allready? we hardly even know eachother? :p

So, got both Ogres finished today and primed my next project as well as made a start at the base I want to build for it.

I'm still not very happy with the photo's I'm producing (almost feel like the quality of the pics has gone backwards since the introduction of the lightboxthing...) but I still got a ton of experimenting to do with it...
It seems to be extremely hard to get decent pictures of metallics as they are the main thing that is bothering me in the pictures. The other colors are pretty realistic, but the TMM looks very different IRL...
Nonetheless, I had fun on these models experimenting with skin some more and experimenting alot on TMM...
If these were meant for display purposes I'd be unhappy with them but for gaming purposes they will definitly do. I'll throw up another pic when I put them on their multibase together with the previous 2. Both sets look a little bit different so unit coherence won't be spot-on but honestly, this army is more about experimenting with all sort of techniques rather than anything else :)

Edit: just noticed that the pictures don't really show I tried to bring some life into the faces and knuckles with some reds/purples... Think it's because they are oversaturated lightwise... (Goddammit, this photographing thing is harder than painting the damn things :p )

Here we go:

Here's the next project and I really think this is gonna be a fun one, got a nice base in mind and gonna play around with some things I've never done before on it as well:

C&C as always most welcome, as well as any and all photography related tips until I get that part better ;)

Happy Paintslapping!

Too tired tonight to get some actual painting done (apart from blocking in a couple colors on the gobbo but I did take some time to experiment with all sorts of things to get better pictures and I think I have found a better way. I changed up both my setup to one without a lightbox and I played around with all possible settings on the camera until I got good results and for the first time, I'm actually quite happy with the pictures...

So here's another set of the same Ogres in, in my opinion, higher quality!

Blowing up the pics like this does show every little mistake and there are quite some which annoy me a little but I allready put enough time into these guys and I'm really looking forward to painting the gobbo, gonna make a fun little project out of that!
Besides, the Ogres are still meant as gaming mini's and when I added them to the base with the 2 others I was quite pleased with how it looked. A complete army of these guys will look nice on the battlefield! (and we all know painted mini's roll more 6's!!)

Hopefully I'll have alot of time to spend on the gobbo tomorrow :)

PS: Yes, i'm aware of the unpainted foot on one of them, which is why I covered it in snow on the unit base :p

Way to go, Corax. The group shots definitely reveal the more lively, interesting skin (hands look really nice) on the new guys.

@Saint and BAM: thx guys :)

Got started on the goblin this weekendand so far I'm pretty happy with the skin and the face. The shawl and the belt have only been basecoated and shaded a bit so those aren't finished, only face and hands are...
Started building the base as well which will, for me be the first time I'm really going to put in some effort to create an interesting display base. A couple of ideas worked out so far but I'm still trying to figure out how to do some decent water effect without necessarily buying on of the products designed for it. If I don't figure out a decent way I'll still go buy anyway but still, want to try out a couple of things first :)

Really enjoying this mini and enjoying the first time I'm really thinking up a scène for it, rather than just painting it!

Loving what you've done with this little goblin so far. The sculpt is full of character and your painting is letting that shine through. I'm a huge fan of little stories/vignettes that tie the mini to the base - like SaintToad creates for his minis - and I think this little guy will be a great candidate for something similar.

Hello Corax! Passing by to say hello! Following your wip from now on, expect me to pass by from time to time ^^

Hoping you and your friends will continue your D&D adventure so you all could make a nice game/painting group. ;)

@ArchArad: thanks, very kind of you :) At work today I suddenly had a little inspiration pop into my mind about where to take the goblin story next so I'm hoping I'll be able to really put that into the piece when it's done...

@Maenas: Welcome good sir, have seen some of your work around here and I'm honored to have you along for the ride, hope you'll be enjoying what you'll get to see ;) Our D&D group is definitly on full spin, our DM has about 10yrs of experience and we're going for a nice, long campaign with a lovely story developing. We don't get to play that often since we all don't live very close together but nonetheless we keep it going nicely, with some other gaming/painting action on the side ofc ;)

@Krulebear: tyvm for the kind words! Have to say the picture doesn't bring it out completely yet as the little cord from his hat has also been given some contrast, which isn't really showing up. Will have to see next pictures whether that's a question of not enough contrast or whether it's a picture thing.

While at work today a little bit of inspiration suddenly struck me!
The thing I always liked about goblins in many settings is their quirky, sometimes absurdness that creates very funny situations. I'm thinking about things like Goblin Fanatics from WHFB doing all sorts of crazy chaotic stuff, Goblins eating mushrooms to become more powerfull, crazy goblin contraptions and stuff like that...
This was one of the things I immensly liked about SaintToad's goblin earlier, the one that's going full berserk at a butterfly... At this point I didn't have anything like that to add that sprinkle of funny to the scene.
At the same time I was also thinking about how I should go about painting his staff...

Those 2 things combined suddenly made me think about Yoda (yeah, my mind works in particular ways :p ) and his fighting scene where the old little master is suddenly zipping around the screen like a madman...
And an idea was born: This was going to become: 'Old Master Neko', a blind old martial arts master travelling through a murky swamp who suddenly picks up on strange sounds alerting him to danger which leads him to standing in the position he is on the scenic base I'm trying to create...

To emphasize his age and blindness I redid his eyes to just white without pupils and I painted his staff like one of those walking canes for the blind (the white ones with the red stripes)... took me a while to get most lines decently straight and to redo the eyes as I'm pretty bad at that but I got it to a point I can be happy with. Did forget to take a picture after this session so that'll have to wait until after next session :)

I'm really having such a blast with this little guy and his base, been a long long time since I was this stoked about a project lol

Ooh - I like this little plan! What are you going to have as the innocent cause of the disturbance? I vote for an adorable bunny.

Well I was planning on not adding that to the display to leave it to the imagination... Some people would indeed think about a cute little bunny, maybe some people would think about some sort of goblin darth vader counterpart etc... :)

Here's some more progress:

Update time as I'm nearing the end of the goblin project :)
3 day weekend here in Belgium so after a slow week finally got pretty much all the time I needed to put into this one.

Here's WIP shots of the largely finished mini (might do a couple retouches), the title scroll I'll glue to the display and the base:
MIni:

Scroll thing:

And the base (note: the water effect is still drying and dries out fully clear. Once that's done I'll re-evaluate the look, fiddle with it some more if needed and after that I'll put everything togeteher)

The colors are a little bit off on these pics but close enough for a WIP, once I finish this I'll set up my decent photo-setup and make decent pictures (might even try to make smth to be the start of my gallery here... :) )

@Sicks and Hairster: thanks guys, glad you like the base, it's the fist time I actually spend some time building a bit of a scenic base :)

@Dirty Thanks mate, btw I followed your tip about the staff to tone it down and bring it a bit more in line with the other toned down colors and you were right, looks better now imo !

The thing that has me slightly worried however is that I had hoped to finish the mini today after the water effect had dried, but on coming home I noticed some spots hadn't dried clear... I'm still hoping this is due to it not being fully dry yet (even though it's over 24hrs and not on very thick...) so I'm going to give it another day but if it doesn't clear out, I'm gonna have to start inking some places to cover up ... bit of a set back but I'm still confident I can fix it :)
