The Round Robin Miniature Idea

Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into?!

Finn, you are a bad person.

@Trevor: By colour? Nah, I\'d just paint the damn dwarf blue and never get to send it anywhere.

not that damnable dwarf...

I just finished painting old Mr. Deepmug up (i\'ll post him this weekend!)....

So, is each country doing the same mini?

America, I am listening to your comments.....

I have a question?

Are you mailing the disjointed parts about, or is it getting glued first? Perhaps this topic was covered and I didn\'t see it in my scan of the thread.

I like the idea of the whole thing being glued first. This takes care of the continuity arguement. The next person can build where all the previous painters left off. So no one is coming completely from left field.

I have another question. What if I get the model after Supervike and he painted the sword. Then by mistake, or act of God, or malice, I accidentally get paint where he painted? Do I fix it myself or mail it back to Supervike to fix? Or do I just pretend I never received it?

I\'m probably ensuring that I won\'t be included, aren\'t I?

Just tell everyone I painted the liver.

It\'s just two parts and it\'s my intention to glue them together first, yeah.

The possibility of painting accidents or clipped paints due to dropping it to the floor(I know you droppers are out there) crossed my mind as well. I guess you\'ll just have to be extra careful and if it happens anyway you\'ll just have to try and fix it. *shrug*

More suggestions....

If we wanna seperate by country, I have an extra Reaper Female Blackguard to donate to the American/Australian cause. As of right now (Thurs. 11 PM EST) I have nine Amer/Aussie people, so I\'ve broken down the mini into nine parts.

Name:

1.Barkel
2.Duende
3.ipaintminis
4.Itchy
5.Orchid_Noir
6.supervike
7.TAB_Studio
8.torifile
9.Trevor

Part:

1. face/eyes
2. Sword
3. Axe
4. Hair
5. Torso (chest to loincloth)
6. Shoulders and helm
7. Legs/feet
8. Arms/hands
9. Basing

NOTE: I\'m not assigning anything yet. Just want to know if these people want to do this one, and if so, which part would they like? Or no preference, Or just recieve it, pick one of these parts, do it and send it on?

And YOU ---> Mr. Pessimist, finn17. All this needs to work is someone who will take over organizing the participants. I\'ll even volunteer to do the American/Aussie Round Robin (I\'m a stay-at-home mom- I have lots of time to kill ;)).

If you\'re (meaning anybody reading this) interested, e-mail me at depthtrap@pa.net. I\'d like to set up a who\'s sending to who before painting starts.

Any more ideas?

Just an Idea

from doing rrq\'s (round robin quilts) maybe the participants could do this:

1. each person buys a mini which they get back at the end. (this would be easiest by country or region, and more than 5 per mini might be too much)
2. have a set of rule per shift, like
a. owner does basecoat
b. next, does skin/armor color
c. something nmm
d. introduce new color

etc. these rules can be challenging or silly, and won\'t always fit each model, so you need to be creative.

3. email wip pics to everyone BUT the original owner lol

4. post all of them!

Ideas...

I\'ve actually been up thinking about how to make the Round Robin work and I think I have an idea.

1. Everyone who joins gets the name, e-mail and snail mail address of 2 people. One who they will recieve minis from, and one they will sent the minis to.

2. One person will be in charge of keeping a master list of all particiapnts and incorporating new memnbers. (I volunteer to do this for the North American group).

3. Any mini started in the cycle (I was imagining a circular pattern when thinking this up- wish I could draw it here...) is sent with the \"parts\" listed (like I did with the Female Blackguard in my earlier post), and the mailing address of the original owner. The owner cleans and primes it and sends it on.

4. The next person does one if the \"parts\", puts his/her name on the list next to the part that was done (so when it\'s posted here, everyone can get credit for thier part in it).

5. The person who finishes it mails it back to the original owner.

6. Communication is important! Notify your \"mail-to\" person before sending so they know to expect it. If somebody wants out, they can give thier \"sending -to\" information to the person they recieve from.

----Examples (simplified for your viewing pleasure):

Round Robin includes persons #1. to #5.

1. mails to 2. -->3. -->4. --> 5. --> back to 1.

OK this works for a mini with 4 \"parts\" but for more or less..

Number 1 Sends a mini with only 3 \"parts\" to do. Number 4 finishes it and sends it back to Number 1. Number 5 may have gotten left out of this one but others may come his way if, say Number 4 starts a mini in the cycle.

Number 1 starts a mini with 7 \"parts\" . It goes completely around the circle, where Number 1 even gets to do a \"part\" and Number 3 finishes it and sends it back to Number 1. (I\'m hoping to get more participants than a mini has parts, so this scenario won\'t be happening much, if at all).

----End Example

This way, anyone can start a mini and send it along. Everyone only has two people to \"worry about\"- the sender and reciever. One person keeps track of all participants and gets newbies thier information and sets up the original mailing circle.

I think list the mini \"parts\" as actual sections (head, torso, legs, etc) is easiers so nobody\'s painting over someone else\'s effort. Any minor screw-ups (like geting a dab of paint on an already painted part) can be attempted to be fixed by the one who did it. Any Major screw-ups (like dropping it in a puddle of ink), requires it being sent back to the owner- who can then strip it and restart it, or just do whatever they want.

I think this could work this way, its fairly simple, easy for new people to join or drop out.

I just need to think of a way to control how many minis are in \"the circle\" at once. I don\'t think anyone want to spend all their time working on other people\'s minis and making daily trips to the post office. Ideas? ???

Comments?? Questions?? Snide remarks??

Well, that sounds like a good idea, but i\'m still working on my Wammer 40K army. i was thinking one RRM every month or two... not two or three coming to my house every week. Just as sort of a get to know the folks on the forums, not so much of a time taker. i\'d be on board for a couple, but need time to work on my army (not posted... all are game quality, i only post my side projects;))

I\'ll go with whatever Gipsy decides. It\'s complicated enough without everyone going \"hey, I had this grand idea...\". Not that I have anything but the utmost respect for all of you, but if everyone keeps on adding input, we\'re never going anywhere.

\"Too many cooks spoil the broth\".

Oh man, that\'s the first time I ever used this expression ! :bouncy:

Am I too Late??

Sorry guys, I\'m a little late in reading this thread, but what a wonderful idea! I\'d like to join for the U.S., if at all possible and if so, I really REALLY, love painting skin/faces & eyes.....:D

If all is underway, I understand, but am axious to see this worldy miniature completed.

Great idea and perhaps if successful, another can be underway to follow-up the first.
