A friend of mine was talking about a pod cast he heard. The topic was about people cheating while gaming. It can be any game. Just tell your story.

We have suspected the guy we use to play Blood Bowl with of cheating. I haven’t played Blood Bowl since 1994. So I am a little rusty with the rules. As we were learning the game, the guy ‘teaching’ us made bad mistakes. Before you moved to cream him, he would then say, “Wait. That was silly. I would never do that.” Then proceed to move all of his guys into a better position. To be fare, he did the same for us when we made mistakes. But if it gave him an easy touchdown, he wouldn’t tell us the mistake.

This same teacher would change his best player’s position whenever it gave him a good. One day he went to the bathroom and we looked at his roster and noted good player’s number. Then when he tried it, we called him on it.

It got so bad; I started taking notes during his games against another opponent to keep him honest.

The icing on the cake was when he literally moved a miniature forward when he thought I wasn’t looking. That was the last game we played.

He is now back in Calgary. If you are gaming at the Sentry Box, be warned.

Anyone else have any stories?

I\'ve got a friend who cheats at pretty much every RPG he plays. He uses a variety of techniques but the best one I have seen is that he uses one of the really old D20s that used to come with the D&D boxed sets. The ones that only have the numbers 1-10 on them twice. You are supposed to colour in half the numbers with a crayon to denote which are 1-10 and which are 11-20. He has two versions of cheating with these dice. The first is the basic just don\'t shade any in and see if anyone notices. The second is shade them in and then swap which are high and which are low.

The most amusing part about this player though is hes a great roleplayer and an asset to pretty much any group, so we just let him cheat. So what if every time he needs a 19 or 20 to hit in a dire circumstance he makes it. He\'s a \'good enough cheater\' that he will fudge rolls the other way as well, so when fighting goblins you will notice he gets hit alot and misses alot, but when that dragon comes around, all the saves get made and all hits are crits. Pretty much all my friends that play with him have called him on it and now after gaming with him for years, just laugh about it secretly and try to catch how he\'s cheating that night (then discussing it over pints the next night to see who caught what).

I\'m always puzzled when people want to cheat at rpgs. I mean, what do you gain? Mind you, I also don\'t see the point of power-gaming, min-maxing and munchkinism, so perhaps I\'m missing something...?

Playing White Wolf, we briefly had a guy in our group that would roll his dice, then scoop them up quickly, and declare ludicrously good numbers.
Then, on the times he actually rolled ludicrously good numbers, he would show them to everyone.
We gave him the boot after less than a month.

I have one d20 that I call \'My Magic 20\', because it rolls like utter crap until I really need a 20... and then it always gets it.

Mr C used to play with a group of guys down in LA every week. He did it to stay sane even though he had to drive 3 hours round trip to do it. It was really the only social outlet he had when we first moved to where we live now.

He was never fond of the GM. The guy is a blowhard who hates women. I tried playing a game with him once and refused to even think of it again. This of course pi$$ed Mr C off but it was the only game going so he put up with it.

This guy Jason Acres (no I\'m not afraid to say his name. The man habitually drives his best players off) was one of those GM\'s who had a set plan for how the game was going to turn out and who was going to die. He would fudge his roles all the time. If you watch a npc\'s rolls would have pluses that varied from 10-20 depending on how the game was going. If you called him on it he would make up some rediculous story about the gods or something. He made up rules as he went along too.

Finally Mr C had enough and got in a fight with the man. He\'s never been back since, even though he left a large folding table and 8 folding chairs there. Worth the price to get out of the game I guess.

I use to play Elric of Melnibone RPG as I kid but seeing as I was a better gm at the time than the guy running it somehow I managed to end up not only playing Elric but had stormbringer as well.

After about 3 months playing I was a demigod :).I took on the lords of chaos one by one in the end he had to get what was left of the chaos lords and the lords of order to work as a team to take me and my party down.

The end battle was one of the best games I had ever played as the Gm grew some balls and took my ass down.

He became one of the best gms I ever played with.

I bet he did. I play him scrabble on facebook all the time and I have yet to beat him. I know he must be cheating. :flame:



Of course I paly several people from here and I hardly ever win so they all must be cheating :flame:



Either that or I\'m really really bad at scrabble. Maybe I should start cheating? ;)

It sure would help my ego. Darklord and Billy beat me on a regular basis. I\'m strating to think I\'m blonde or something.

One classic tried in a 40K game against me, was to measure the 6 inch move.
Move the front figures to that distance, then move the rear figures in front of the first figures.
Missed it the first time, collared him the second time, wasn\'t a third. lol

Oh and I nearly forgot my mates \"tradition\" of putting all his grots in a straight line in front of his troops.
Stopped him with Immolators in the end, then some B*****d knicked all his Orks.

I\'ve seen a ton of wonky measuring in games, especially Warhammer.

People around here like to move there units by measuring the distance from the front of the minis base, and then put the mini at the end of the measuring tape. Not that big a deal with 1\" bases, but when it\'s a bike or a tank, these guys are getting 2-5 inches of free movement. I\'ve seen this at three different local events, and seems so common that I don\'t even think everyone doing it even realizes they are cheating.

One I used to use years ago (back in gradeschool when Warhammer Fantasy Battle was new, around 83 or so) was to put my hand down on the table in front of a unit to \'steady\' myself as I looked at something beyond the unit. I did this because at the time my palm was almost exactly 8\" long which was the charge distance for my orcs. So I would lean in to \'study\' a unit \"hey are those crossbow men? I really like the Standard\", while leaning in put hand on table in front of black orcs. Glance down at hand while straightening, and then start declaring charges, including that unit second last if possible, to make things even less obvious.

Since those early days I\'ve since realized that a victory through cheating isn\'t much of a victory at all and have tried to rely on skill and luck to win my games. Which is probably why I never win anymore :D
