the unwritten rules of wargaming, written down

Actually these rules are written down somewhere on the web, so they aren\'t actually unwritten anymore ;)

Anyway, read them carefully, because they are all so true.

1. Thou shalt respect and preserve the look of the thing. Therefore, thou shalt not deploy unpainted figures to the competition table. Thou shalt wait until thy figures are presentably painted and based.
2. Thou shalt honor the Sequence of Play by not asking thy opponent to allow thee go back to recover a forgotten opportunity, lest thy opponent say, \"Hard cheese for thee, O Fool! Play on!\"
3. Thou shalt cast thy dice upon the table. Thou shalt not Slide thy dice across the table, lest thy opponent cast his own dice at thy head.
4. Thou shalt cast thy dice in the vicinity of the unit affected by that casting. Thou shalt not cast thy dice upon the baseline where nobody else can see the results, lest thy opponent come around the table with a great thick cudgel in hand to swing while counting thy pips for himself.
5. After thou hast cast thy dice upon the table thou shalt abide by the result thereupon; thou shalt neither bitch nor carp nor moan, neither a word nor a peep, not even one, and thou shalt play on, lest thine opponent tire of thy folly and throttle thee.
6. Thou shalt not touch thy opponent\'s figures upon the table, neither to move them nor to rout them nor to dress their ranks nor to remove them from play, lest thou stretch forth thy hand to do so and pull back a stump only.
7. Thou shalt accept the umpire\'s ruling. Thou shalt not raise a shrill voice unless thou art a natural soprano. Thou shalt not stamp thy feet unless thy shoes are on fire. Thou shalt bite thy tongue and play on.
8. Thou shalt diligently manipulate thy tournament pairings so that two local homeboys don\'t travel three hundred miles to thy tournament, only to play each other in the first round.
9. The figures thou submitteth to a painting competition shall have been painted by thyself and not by thy hireling.
10. Thou shalt not openly disparage thy opponent\'s choice of a lame army list. Thy opponent might be an accomplished gamer competing under a self-imposed handicap. Thy opponent might also be an idiot, but in either case thou shalt make no public spectacle thereof.
11. Thou shalt tread carefully within the vicinity of thy opponent\'s terrain pieces, lest thou clumsily topple his excellent built-up area or smush his painstaking foam construct or flick thy hot cigar ash upon his green terrain cloth, whereupon thy opponent shalt snatch up a piece of real terrain - a brick, for example - and come upside thy head with it.
12. Thou shalt not make even an honest mistake in the calculation of thy competition army list. Thou shalt diligently pay for every option taken. Thou shalt verify thy sums and verify them again, for thy honor is enduring and transient advantage is not.

I\'d like to add one making it 13!

13. Thou shalt bathe thy body such that your odors do not distract your opponent or spectators and detract from the enjoyment of the battle!

I think this one is crucial as gamers, and you know who you are, all to often don\'t take heed of the niceties of polite society.

14: And thou shalt grin pleasantly and congratulate thy opponent with hearfelt praise, even when thou hast had thy arse soundly kicked on the field of battle by a spotty liittle 14 year old.

Amen DragonsReach, had that experience a time or two myself. But I always smile, I\'ve always learned the most from a good arse kicking. I tend not to get it kicked the same way twice....but then there are so many ways to kick...hmmm.:wow:

15. And if thou win the game, thou shalt not smirk, or leap with glee, or cackle, or shout \"Owned!\" or any such disgraceful display. Thou shalt be humble, and thank thy opponent for a fight well-played, and perhaps offer a few nuggets of analysis in a non-patronizing tone. This goes for computer gaming as well.

- Noses, take these 15 commandments for all to obey!

- Damn... that\'s too much, I shall ask Moses to come up and I\'ll give him only ten (for all to obey)

Bang on the nose SuperVike! I love that movie.

Those rules should really be added into the new WH40K rulebook, I see people break them all the time... than again, people will start interpreting these rules as well!

I think Corvus might have had a bad day. And though violence may seem like a good answer it is only half the solution. Such failings as listed here can not end with mere pain but must include . . . humiliation.:)

How about on parchement with some fancy smancy caligraphy or illumination like some of the books from the middle ages? I might be able to swing that - course the text would be in English since I dont speak either French or Walloon (sp) - (isnt that the other major language in Belguim?) being limited in by my American education. Unless of course we could run the whole thing through Mr. Finn\'s Miracle Translation Software! lol

I do digital imaging for a living and I am sure I could make a version that \"looks\" carved in stone and if that would do the trick I would be happy too send the first one over the pond to Tuubje\'s store! As soon as I have time to put it together I\'ll post an image on this thread!

Whooop! 2 more posts to be a member!
