Actually there are three official languages in Belgium: Dutch (also called Flemish), French and German.

Ahh, see here in the States we only got one official language - English - then we got all the regional unnofficial ones - here where I live that includes Spainish, Tex-Mex, Spanglish, French, German, Tex-German, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and a host of other smaller dialects. :D

Alas we have but only one language in France, French!!! :D And don\'t count on school to teach you how to speak another language, by the time I graduate I will be fully able to talk about the reconquista in spanish but not know how to ask for the bathrooms :flame:

And back on topic, love those rules maybe I should try to translate them and give them to my local GW store. :D

Don\'t feel bad. I took three years of French in high school and the only sentence I think I remember is how to ask where the library is.lol

Oh, and thanks to an old Pointer Sisters song, I can ask if you want to go to bed with me tonight. :D

It was German for me.

After two years of H.S. German (and three years in Germany), all I can remember is how to ask for a beer, and how much it costs. Oh, and the obligatory curses. :D

Have a nice day,

Kinda like Dauber here myself frenchkid - 3 years of high school Latin, 4 semesters of German, and a grandfather who spoke Arabic on a regular basis and just about all I can do in all three languages is swear like a sailor - which is a pretty feat in Latin. :D

Haha I remember that Spanish lesson I had about the vocabulary of apothecary shop, like \"manier un pilon\", when I couldn\'t even ask for directions.

Un leon en un sillon
Un jamon en un tazon
(lesson one, pronunciation)

Luckily, there are comic strips to learn proper English (haaa, Calvin & Hobbes)

I\'m always stunned at how much better the world in general speaks English, than we Americans can speak [insert any language here]:wow:
Our version of speaking a foreign language is to speak English very slowly and louder. lol

With respect, and understanding that I post this on a site devoted to painting...*lathers self in flame retardant*

I must disagree with this. As someone who just recently entered this hobby, the whole \"have it all painted\" thing is needless, intimidating, and all together hostile towards someone who just wants to play.

Lets take me for example. Freelance writer, double science major, editor of an undergraduate bioethics journal...I have very little time to paint. I deal with the skeletons that make up the bulk of my army, but I\'m in no mood to ruin a $40 plus figure because I haven\'t honed my skills to the point that they\'re worth of the centerpeice of my army. Of course, without a general, I can\'t field an army...

It takes a *LONG*time to paint an army, and many of us find it to be enjoyable, but not our passion. To have a fully painted 2150 point Warhammer force means me looking at a year plus worth of painting, with my slow, careful style. Are you really suggesting I spend a year not playing, for the priveledge of being part of your hobby?

I\'ve had far to many experiences playing jerks with beautifully painted armies, and playing opponents with a row of grey plastic who were solid tacticians and goodsportsmen to buy into this. For tourneys, I agree, but among casual play? I find this kind of attidude very hostile to the type of people who keep the hobby alive, and subsidize your gaming.

Yup, you\'re right there CrazyIvan - this is an elitest hobby and those of us who have ascended to its hights really dont want to deal with newbies who\'s only excuse is I dont have time to paint my minis. If you believe that, I\'ll make you a hell of a deal on some swamp land that I\'ve been looking to unload for years now.

Yes, there are some complete and total asswipes out there who will not play a pickup game at their local gaming shop with someone who has unpainted miniatures on the board. Me? The only time it bothers me (and while I cannot speak for everyone on the list I think most of the \"old school coffin dodging\" gamers here will to a degree agree with me) is when you go to the shop and the same guy shows up for over a year with the same reason his mini\'s arent painted - I just dont have time to paint. We all have lives that dont revolve around painting minis - well except Chrispy and his Nemesis the dread Jen Haley :D - and even Chrispy has to take time off for college and work.

Does this mean you shouldn\'t play an unpainted army? No. Does this mean you should make an effort to paint your army as time goes by? Hell yes. Painting serves a couple of purposes in my book - first, it protects the mini from skin oil and grease, which make it harder to paint in the long run - secondly, it makes my forces easier to identify (aint no one else in the Austin area that I know of running a Hot Metallic Pink Stone Rhino in Battletech) and thirdly it does show that this is more than just a passing fad for you. Any one can run down and blow several thousand dollars on minis and slap em on the table, but it takes real effort to get em on the board painted in a coherant fashion.

At school, they tried to stuff me with Latin, German and French. I studied all three languages for at least three years and the only things I can recall are: amo, amas amat, amamas, amatis amant. really useful:rolleyes: and trez beans/say bonne(I do know how they are spelled, but this is how every English speaker I have met has pronounced them). What a waste of time!

Too true. Although, when I was in school foreign language classes were being offered as an elective at the high school level. Now, with my kids they have started some basic spanish at the kindergarten level, so maybe things are changing.

How come everyone just doesn\'t speak that Esperanto (sp) language??

Only Wild Bill Shatner\'s hair piece even understands Esperanto - Except for Kryten - but he\'s got a better hair piece than Shatner lol

I learnt french from an early age, so I know it pretty well. However, once I left the french school I was going to, I had a number of tutors* who all had different agendas, so now that I am taking french in High School, my french teacher is always exasperated how I can speak and read so much better than anyone else in class, but can\'t write for poo. Luckily, my french final today was widly over easy, what was meant to be a 2 hour ordeal ended up taking 15 minutes for the class to finish, and the stuff was dead easy anyway. yey!

*My most recent tutor, Simone, was my nemesis. We hated each other! She would always ask me which one of my sister and I was the stupid one, and then inform me I was. I was always messing with her back, like the time I drew pen on my hand under the table until it turned black, and she asked me to go wash it off, at which point I wetted my hand and smeared it all over my face. Or the time I took her lozenges when she was out of the room, and stuck them into holes I made in the fruit on the table. Or the time I made a sign that said \"Help! this woman is crazy!\" and stuck it behind her curtains in the window. Or when I always hid her pencils. Or when I took my gameboy and turned the super mario theme up so it was barely audible, and hid it in the room, so that from time to time she asked if I could hear something. Or when I changed the time on her clock. or how my sister and I would carefully erase parts of the homework she gave us. Or how we would draw rude pictures in the book. Or....

Wow, I really did start ranting there. Everything I said is true however! Good times....lol
