Congratulations on finishing the project!!!
Dab a little touch of gloss varnish to his nose, it might look a little more natural? Frost and snow look great from this side of the screen and green eyes make him look very menacing.
Waiting for you to provide a better picture with the nameplate on... ^^

I might as well start sharing some of the pictures of my second project for the World Expo competition.. a converted grot tank... one of the most adorable models in the Grim Darkness of the Far Future LOL!!

This post will be a bit pic heavy...

I call this piece PEW!! PEW!! lol

First, the base. I went for a simple broken up street with rubble and a section of a crater and added a bunch of bullet casings to represent an ongoing battle.. also added the cascading bullets from the grot gunner in the turret

The front and sides of the chassis... simple conversions...

View attachment 58210 View attachment 58212 View attachment 58213

The turret, flag for the top of the turret, grot gunner, and barrel.. more heavily converted..

The antenna jammed in the back is supposed to look like it was shoved into the cupola from the outside..I think it kinda works.. As for the grot gunner, it's one of the regular gretchin models from GW cut in half... he's shooting behind the tank, while the main gun is shooting ahead. I figured the change in direction would add to the story and interest of the piece, suggesting combat is taking place. I was surprised how well this conversion turned out.

I'm going for a conventional OD green color scheme with some splashes of color from "looted" metal from enemy tanks with moderate to heavy weathering.

Questions and comments always welcome :)

WOW such a nice idea ^^ That firing grot is almost cute and it does not even look converted it fits perfectly!

@ Maenas: Thanks! All I had to do for the grot to fit was cut off his legs and reposition the end of his bandanna, and viola! Like you said, it fit perfectly!

@ Clarke: Thanks! I should get a good amount of paint on the tank this weekend :)

Congrats on the medal, very well deserved.

I'm very jealous of your basing work. That middle one in particular is awesome.

@ ten ball: Thank you sir! Hope to get to your level of greatness one day! :D

@BAM: Thanks BAM! It was definitely a motivator! Pew Pew is coming along :) finally finishing up the semester with school so I should have some time to paint! Hopefully it'll turn out ok for ReaperCon in Texas :)

@KruleBear: Thanks! :)

@Foxtail:Thanks very much! :) Basing has become my favorite part of this hobby...not sure why, but I just like to create them :) The one in the middle is going to be a very dark/old forest with a lone dwarf traveling through it... I'm going to try to do an OSL/forced perspective piece where the positioning of the basing elements will tunnel in right to the dwarf..trees framing him, color going from dark to light.. so the eye should start at the front of the base and travel to the back of it where the figure is. Hopefully I can pull it off one day :) If you're looking for basing tutorials, I'd suggest Miniature Mentor.. they've got some great videos!

@SaintToad: Thanks Saint!! :)

Hey everyone...

So it's been over two years since I've posted, let alone painted anything, and I really want to jump back into miniature painting and become a better painter. I've spent the last two years finishing school, starting other hobbies, and moving through life, but my love for miniature painting, especially building awesome bases, :laugh: remains undimmed. I thought the best way to get back into it was to start fresh with a new project for a local mini painting competition. I find that having a deadline helps me to better budget time for painting. Also, would really love the constructive comments and tips from the CMON community to help me improve and keep me motivated :D.

Here's my latest project, a male wizard from Darksword Miniatures. In addition to entering it into a competition, I'm giving it to a friend as his playable D&D character. I plan on painting him as if he's delved deep into a dungeon...hence the terrain, torch, and stuff strewn about the floor. It may be too much to pull off for returning to the hobby, but I want to try my hand at some OSL.

My main focus on this piece is to work on color contrast, complimentary colors, and blending.

Nice work on this base! I take it the little white "pills" will be gold coins strewn about?
