Doesn't look like you lost any ability for making a great base! Looking forward to seeing this get painted.

+1 for awesome base!

Where did you get the trinkets from?

gorb: this should be some high level mage, so they should be platinums. :)

@Lost, that is funny because in the email notification for your reply to LL I did see the links and descriptions you had posted but not when I logged into CMON, did you edit them out or they just not take here?

I kept getting a "forbidden" message when I tried to post with the links. After I removed them, it worked.

The stuff on the base is from a variety of manufacturers. Here's a list with some links..hope they work:

Candles: Maxmini - https://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/equipment-and-accessories/candles-books-skulls-bits
Potions: Kromlech (I Think) - https://bitsofwar.com/home/684-alchemic-bottles.html
Books: Zealot Miniatures - http://zealotminiatures.com/zealot-shop/#!/Books-Set/p/82421271/category=23326032
Column: Mini Monsters - https://www.minimonsters.eu/en_US/p/Ruined-Columns/88
Torch: Hexy Workshop - https://hexy.store/other-bits-conve...-basing-kit.html?search_query=torch&results=3

The metal pitcher was from an old Andrea Set I found in a clearance bin at a model show...came with cups, plates, all sorts of dinner ware lol..was a good find!
Skulls and little chest are from Games Workshop. Skulls came from their skull box, and the chest is from a Bretonnia Sprue.
The little coins are slices of a small plastic rod.
Hope that helps

I had to struggle pasting this, too.

Here are some pictures of what I was able to paint... didn't paint nearly as much as I was supposed to, and it didn't come out at all how I wanted... trying to get the piece to look cold, even though there will be torch light. I may have used the wrong colors for the dirt, but it really is supposed to give the illusion of being under the dungeon floor... long way to go... OSL is super complicated, and probably not the best choice for restarting the hobby lol. I think I actually ended up getting more paint on my hand than the model LOL!!!

Trying to block in the light and dark areas with glazes...not sure it's working as intended.

Comments and tips appreciated :)

It is a large and complicated piece, I agree, but just seeing it painted up means it already looks very cohesive. Nice job!

As for the effect you are trying to achieve, maybe a colder dark grey instead of a dark brown will make it look colder?
Just my two cents, I am no expert.

Thanks for the suggestion Gorb. Not sure what I'm gonna do:(

Here's another progress shot... tried to brighten it up and add a little color... it's not really working out... thinking of restarting it, but don't know if spraying primer all over it again will cover up details... not a good start to a restart...:dont-know:

Ok, first of all I think this base looks super awesome, so if this is what you call a restart then man, I want to see you running at full speed :)

Second, you could just work with it and see where it takes you. I've done some spelunking (while living in Germany) and some caves have very brown and muddy tones. If the torch light is warm yellow it might just go well together.

Third, if you are really bummed out by the brown, then respray it. With an airbrush (I'm assuming you have one?) you don't have to reprime it, you could just thinly base coat it?

Fourthly (ok, ok I'll stop after this one) maybe put the base aside for a bit and start on the minis you want to add. They might "light the way". I'll see myself out now :)

Thanks for the kind words :) I may redo the stone and the step colors.. I do like the color of the dirt. Airbrushing the lights and darks is a good idea. I'm just not sure if you're supposed to color the stone the color it is supposed to be with the light color, or if it's just supposed to be the color of the light. Also, I think I'm gonna start painting the wizard...see where that leads me :) Thanks again! BTW, where in LA are you? I'm like 20 minutes North of LA in the Glendale area.

Well, now you are asking questions I don't have the answer too. I have a severe lack of experience with OSL :)
There will be others here on the forum that will have a better idea of how to approach that.

I'm in Burbank, so I think we are located pretty close to one another

NICE!! I'm in Montrose! Did you know there's a Hobby Club in Burbank called the Los Angeles Miniaturist Society (LAMS)? They meet once a month to share hobby stuff..pretty cool :)

No, I did not. I'll check it out. Looks like the next meeting is October 5th? Are you keen on going there and meeting up?
