This is ridiculous Surely anyone is entitled to their own opinion especially if it is backed up with reasons and not just an anoymous click... coolmini or \"not\" right? Ill admit, it makes me a little sad when why minis get a low score, but thats the chance you take.
Recently I taught my students \"beauty is in the eye of the beholder\" this applies to mins too!

Well why not PM the little guy and ask him to repost so you can give him some better advice & tips to help him improve his/her painting. It\'d probably go a long way

In this instance I dont think it is the opinion that is in question, but the way it was put across. And while we shouldnt feel like we are walking on eggshells, sometimes a brief thought for other users wouldnt hurt.

I agree totally. I would tolerate Tony\'s nonsense if he wasn\'t such a hypocrite.

At least he has some fanboys to back him up though, the guy that he humiliated does not.


EbonBuddha - I\'ve never heard such a bunch of old tosh in my life mate. I heard once that minipainters are (on average) moderate to high in the IQ department. Please don\'t insult our intelligence with ridiculous rhetoric like \"Legitimate criticism.\"

I can\'t quite see what you\'re saying about \"maybe we should explain it to him better\" etc etc. What, explain to Tony the basic rules of common courtesy?

Yeah you\'re right, he\'s not getting revenge on someone for comments they have left about him. He\'s just being an ass by leaving his \"legitimate\" 1s and 2s in beginners\' galleries.

To those that say \"A least he has the balls to say it, leave him alone\", I\'m not expecting any criticism from you guys for saying what I\'ve said here. Surely, typing all this means I have balls, right? I\'m a brave person, sitting here behind my monitor, criticisiing Tony\'s arrogance. :)

(Yeah, definately a bit of a rant, it\'s Tony\'s fan boys that are pissing me off more than Tony atm)

Well i saw some of these minis a few days ago and read tonys comments. Yes i thought it was harsh, but so what. You stick your stuff up here to be judged. If you dont like bad comments then dont post pics. why is everybody so bothered? I try to be as honest as possible all the time. Tony is just doing this. Give him a break.

And no I am not a fan boy, I have only one real love..... me. always has been and always will be. :|~

Ok, I\'ve got a number of feelings about this.

1.) The painter willingly put his work up here for the community to vote on. This wasn\'t some guy they pulled off of the net with the express purpose of making fun of.
When you do this you have to take the bad with the good.

2.) There is a difference between being blunt and being rude.
Those comments while blunt, were also very rude, and should have been explained in order to help.
The fact that the same response was basically \"cut and pasted\" on all his minis was very bad form, and a bit tasteless. One comment, with helpful advise, was all that was needed.

3.) It is not brave to sit there and critisize behind a monitor, even if your name is posted.
It is brave to post your work up here for much more experienced painters to see, when you are a beginner.

That\'s a good point. From what little we saw, it would appear he starts at perfection then deducts points for \"flaws.\" Though, since he started at 5 he really is starting at acceptable or \"tabletop\" (very subjective) then deducts for \"flaws\" but must add for strengths. So what would those strengths be?
It would be nice if we could see the criteria of everyone\'s votes. I have a rough outline of mine in my profile, but not everyone does.

I cannot comment as to the particular minis because they have already been pulled (though hard to imagine they were \"blotchy,\" which means having blotches - colored spots).

I will say that Tony Manero (Marco) did good by commenting to explain his score. If I were to get a harsh comment from someone I didn\'t know, my first step would be to look at their gallery. If it turned out to be Marco\'s, I\'d probably PM him to ask for suggestions since I\'d be touched that someone so good took time to comment on my dismal efforts. (Haley never responded to any of my comments/queries when I started here).
Sure, his comments could have been more polite, and he has acknowledged that and apologized here, so, lesson learned, move on.

Wow! I can\'t believe how long this thread has remained on topic.

To begin with, I\'d like to apologise to Steelcult and Ebbonbuddha for my previous comments. Having said that, I feel that your critisicm of the moral righteous brigade (I must say that that term is growing on me) was in some way directed at me. Especially as I\'m the author of this thread.

I agree with many of your views especially concerning freedom of speech and expression of your ideas and opinions.

It all gets a little contradictive and hypocritical at times. On the one hand you guys are saying give the guy a go he has a right to be himself and voice his own opinions without people jumping down his throat on that but on the other hand, you\'re saying people who find this kind of behaviour towards other people unacceptable to be nothing but moral goodie two shoes trying to palm their beliefs and principles off on others. I feel that all angles of the argument have a right to express their feelings on this issue.

I\'ve also got to add, I must say that I\'m kinda regretting starting this thread. Please take into account that I went out Saturday night after band rehersal, got totally blind and rolled in at the same time as the sun was coming up. I didn\'t sleep well, and when I woke up I vsited my favorite site only to discover that some d00d had pulled his pics down (fair assumption) because of some IMHO rough and certainly not helpful comments by Tony.

So yeah! I wanted to let Tony know that this ain\'t cool. But as Voltaire said, \"I disagree with everything you have to say but shall defend to the last your right to say it\". That\'s how I feel.

Finally, I should apologise to you Tony. In no way was I trying to discredit you as an artist. Or for that matter try to harm your reputation. That\'s in your hands my friend. I think you\'re a talented mini painter and I truely wish you the best.

Listen to me or not, that\'s your choice>>> Go easy on the enthusiastic beginners who get in there and have a go. We\'ve all got to start somewhere.

Who knows? In some ironic twist or as fate may have it, your comments may have turn out to have being the best thing for him. This may give him the drive to become the best.

Actually, it wasn\'t Voltaire, it was Evelyn Beatrice Hall.

I have now made it my hopeless quest in life to correct this mistake (along with eliminating the word \"utilize\" as there is no valid reason for not using the much simpler and more elegant word \"use\" in all cases).

I stand corrected. I learnt this quote in highschool from Voltaire\'s writings around the time of the French Revolution. Darn education system in Australia.

I guess there are many difficult and easily confusable words in the English language. Simplicity is usually the best approach.

I wish you luck on your quest.
