Things you learn the hard way.

I had just put a brand new scalpel blade in, because the old one was very blunt. I picked up the scalpel to remove a bit of flash and promptly dropped it point first onto my thigh.

Ooooops there is a scalpel sticking out of my leg.

Aaaaarrrggghhh! There a scalpel in my leg! Move swiftly to remove it and promptly drop it into my leg again!

Now I have two holes in my leg!

Actually I\'m not too bothered about that, a plaster will soon patch that up, but I now have two holes in my cool rather expensive trousers and they don\'t grow back.

The moral to this story is that I probably shouldn\'t be allowed near scalpels....

lol

Early on, I learned that you should never hold your superglue bottle in your teeth, no matter how much you really need to free up a hand to help attach parts in a difficult model. Not only can you glue your lips shut, you can also wind up gluing a nostril shut in your panic when you first realize you\'ve glued your lips shut.

@Trevor : let me guess, after the two legs, you slowly moved away from that blade before it decided to go for a third and more high pitched kind of slice ;).

Heh ... that had to hurt ... as a matter of fact, I know it did.

Few years ... hrmmm, actually about six years now, my four year old was standing in front of me while I was cutting something on the counter. I set the blade down and turned slightly and knocked the blade down, point first towards our feet.

Of course, it would have gone directly into my childs foot so rather hastily (in retro, I think I could have pulled her out of the way) I slammed my foot down over hers. We were both barefooted.

Shhuunkt! So now I have a big butchers blade standing out of the top of my foot where it cut in about an inch and a half deep and my foot is covering my childs, her eyes about as big as saucers. After a hearty ...\'hrrruuuuuuuu\' from me, I picked up my foot, got her out from under me and pulled the blade.

Sqqquuuuuirt ... of course I just had to hit a vein. Keeping daughter from freaking, I laugh a bit (rather forced and tainted with a bit of panic) and asked her to get daddy his flip-flops ... we\'re going for a ride.

Stuff one foot into a flip flop, the other into a glad bag (didn\'t want to bleed all over the place) and off we went for some rather heavy handed stitching and gauze work.

My daughter thought it was pretty cool after it was all said and done. I was less than thrilled.

@FF, That\'s a really good story!

I have learned to never leave open bottles of GW ink or paint near the edge of the table numerous times (especially when you are the clumsiest SOB on the planet). Infact you should keep them as far away from you as possible. Also, thought this may sound obvious, for god sakes cut away from yourself. The only good thing about cutting yourself at your painting table is that you\'ve got all the tools to patch yourself back up right infront of you, paper towels, clean water, and super glue to glue the gash shut. (wich actually works very well and is doctor recomended)

So what you\'ve learned is \"don\'t wear pants while working on minis??\"

I had a circular saw going about 2-3 thousand RPM\'s in my dremel. I dropped the dremel, while still running, then caught it. By the blade. Yep, it really did a number on my hand.:(

@ Greenstuff - I\'ve chained the vampire scalpel to the desk, ha!

@ FF - Wow! Quick reflexes, lucky daughter.

@ Vincegamer - yep, no trousers for me now.

@ Shawn - ow ow ow.

Man, this is one dangerous hobby! :D

Hmm, and here I was going to say that sand makes your magic nose goblins crunchy.

Yes, I learned that the hard way - in a sandstorm.:Dlol:D

OH. MY. GOD. You just described my Dremel nightmare, and the main non-financial reason I don\'t own one.

Theres a guy at work who flies model aircraft. He was tuning the engine while it was \"held\" in a vice.So when the prop is running its hard to see the actual blade,so the engine starts to move in the vice and he reaches out a hand to stop it dropping on the floor.
They managed to save two fingers.

Hey same thing happened to one of my friends who\'s into airplane moddeling, we were in is garage checking the motor of the plane and he had it in a vice. And somehow the whole thing got free and jumped on my friends\' finger, cut a finger to the bone in two places (the first blade brock on the bone so the seconde one hit the finger too). quit nasty to see.
