@Alexi_Z:
I have been there many a time, pin vice bit snaps, then sticks under thumb nail!! Ouch ! Lost count of the number of times thats happened to me!
The worst story I know is from when I was on Teaching Practice (teacher training), and one of the teachers from the department (Design & Technology, \'Shop\' for the Americans) was doing a demonstration on how to use a Band-saw safely. One of the Kids (year 7\'s, 10-11) asked a question while the saw was running and Alex turned to answer, and removed the tip of her Right index finger.
Try and stay calm with 20-odd 10-11 year olds, and your finger GUSHING blood!!! They are excitable enough as it is!!!! I heard the commotion, but I was taking another class so I only saw the aftermath.
The upshot is that they couldn\'t re-attach the \'finger-end\' because they couldn\'t find it. Even after taking the band-saw apart and checking the extraction system. Not untill the next day when one of the technicians found the errant finger tip, stuck to the ceilling where it had been flung!!!! About 1cm of flesh & bone drying onto the suspended ceilling :|~
Alex still has trouble typing!
The moral of the story is, when using potentially \'maiming\' equipment. Ignore everything else! Ive seen too many carpenters with missing fingers from circular saws etc etc.......
But then I have many scars from sharp things (blades and saws), hot things (soldering Irons, brazing torches, MIG welders), and heavy things! I dont seem to listen to my own advice! :duh::duh::duh:
