Blimey it\'s wicked hot here in NYC . . how are our Belgian brothers and sisters doing? France, the neighbor, lost 10 in the last few days!

Product recommendation:

Someone mentioned at the water cooler this morning Vornado Air Circulators.

Well I\'ll be damned if it doesn\'t work as advertised. I have a 2 room apartment and the bedroom has a proper AC in it - the other room is unbearable warm and stuffy. But now I\'ve had this Vornado Ultimate on for an hour and the whole room is fine . . not as cool as the other but it\'s extremely tolerable . . .

Dunno how how it\'s getting over there, but 110 degrees farenheit is considered normal for summer around here. Needless to say, I stay indoors with all windows shut and the cooler on..

heatwave got europe in its claws. germany counts more then 33°C every day. the hottest points of the day normally reach more then 40. smoking in forests is forbidden because of the dryness, ships can\'t pass certain parts of the \"rhein\" (a big river here) anymore, because it\'s only 90cm high on certain areas and so on... really rough here. we do normally not know such temperatures and certainly not for more then a single day.

hard time livin\' under the roof without an airconditioner. try to sleep with 40° in your room...

Fookin\' hot in the UK as well! We had the hottest day since records began the other day! Hit that 100 degree mark somewhere in England! The room I paint in is the hottest room in the house as it has direct sunlight on it until way past mid day. Even after that time it\'s still unbearably hot as it holds the heat until about 4am. Not nice. Even the fan I\'ve acquired doesn\'t do that much to help. Too hot to paint when it\'s that hot. As well as just being uncomfortable, your fingers get sweaty which isn\'t great when handling minis, and paint dries on the palet in an instant (yeah, get a wet palet, I know!). Even just applying a smooth coat of paint to a mini is harder. I wouldn\'t bother if I didn\'t have to!

Oh, and just to add to that!

I can\'t go and work in a cooler room in the house as nowhere else has such good natural daylight!

Working in IT so we\'re buliding servers & PC by the score, so you can imagine the heat being generated. We don\'t have Air conditioning in the offices just air movement system. I\'m lucky as the Systems Adminmistrator I get to stand in the Server room now & again 18C is wonderful in summer. (But in winter I\'ve brought in a fleece jacket to wear in there!)
On thing though with all this heat My local Coffe Shop (Costa Coffee) is doing a roaring trade in Frescato\'s. A combination of Coffee & Milk Shake With Crushed ice. It\'s incredibly refreshing. (Want\'s one now!!!)

It\'s been quite hot in Norwich recently. I even had to turn Kai\'s heat mat off (my gecko) for a while because he looked a bit hot.

Usually Georgia (US) is that hot with upwards of 95-99% humidity. It gets nasty here some summers. The devil lives two houses down from me.

Actually this year it has been unseasonably cool in Georgia. But the downside is it has rained every last freaking day. You bite into a Georgia Peach and it tastes like water.

Anyway, I\'m rambling. I feel your pain Europe. Not this year, but many, many, many summers of the past. Hold tight, Autumn is en route.

@cynobyte - I have tried sleeping when its 40 C - the normal hellish temperatures of summer were one of the reasons my Boy Scout Troop never went camping in the summer time -

All I can say to our brothers and sisters in Europe is like a kidney stone, this too shall eventually pass - Painfully certainly, but it shall pass.

Whats got me worried is that with this mild summer (for those of us in Texas anyway) winter is probably going to be cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey - something we are not set up to handle here.

North Carolina here. First summer in the South (I\'m a New England/New York transplant) and it\'s VICIOUS. Hot, humid, and it\'s rained so much that the grass is losing its root base to rot and the topsoil is slipping away. The dog has stopped wanting to play in the yard because his feet can\'t find a purchase and he keeps spinning out, down the hill, into the flooded retainment pond, attacked by geese... Sure, I\'m bound to make a fortune on those home video shows, but the poor thing\'s miserable. And he keeps scaring the baby geese.

thats the trouble with england - when it does get hot it is nigh on unbearable beacause there is nowhere to hide - not many people have aircon in their cars (luckily i do!), pretty much no-one has it in thier houses. only the shops

Yup its bloomin\' hot here in England and with our pre-occupation with the weather, its naturally discussed whenever possible.

As Freak said, we just ain\'t used to it therefore we have no AC systems to keep us cool. My car has an older version of air con - it\'s called winding the window down. The only side affect is a whacky hair \'do\' once I arrive at my destination

I\'m down to a single sheet on the bed now, but unfortunately I am the proud owner of 3 cats and it feels like each one kicks out 1kw of heat. I usually wake up in the small hours flinging cats left right and centre (please don\'t report me to the RSPCA!).

However I think the cats are also feeling the heat too....I came home the other evening to find Ziggy with my ladyshave. It was kinda embarassing for both of us, so I just closed the door and left him to it lol lol

two friends of mine went on a holliday to southern spain: 50 degrees celcius!!

Here in the Netherlands it\'s not that hot, but still: today promisses to be the first day in weeks with a maximum temperature of about 25 celcius instead of 30+
I\'ve tried painting in this heat, but the paint dried before I could get the brush onto the mini
Sculpting wouldn\'t work either: the putty was much too sticky.

Yep, It is pretty hot around here, but the town in wich I live in is always pretty hot anyways so it\'s not has bad for us has it is for the people who are not used to this.

I\'ve just come back from a holiday in France and it was pretty hot there too. In fact too hot to do much more than stay in the sea or in the shade. Luckily it wasn\'t particularly humid but I\'m glad to be home... grr.. grumble... weather... grumble..

Dam blackout!

LOL. Funny how Flashman decided to post this thread about 2 hours before the dam upper east cost blackout.

If he thought it was bad, he hasn\'t seen bad yet till 4:11 later that day.

My god, I was freaked out. And of course, everyone\'s first thought was a terrorist attack. I was watching the sky\'s waiting for either smoke or the air force to cover our city. But neither ever came. I emmidately headed out for the supermarkets for supplies. And what the hell? All the main stores were closed due to stupid employees who can\'t add up your purchases, nor do they know how much each item is. Dam dire times it felt. I hunted down for an hour trying to find an old mom \'n pop store who\'ll stay open. Thank god for small stores. F@ck the huge corporations and their highschool, uneducated employees. It\'s a dam shame to know all those food are going to waste.

And yesterday night has gotta be one of the hottest nights yet. At least that\'s how I felt with nothing to do but sit outside and try \'n hope to catch a cool breeze that never came. Too dark to paint. Too dark to even take flash off of some minis. bored... bored... bored...

But thank god I wasn\'t stuck in the subways when it happened. I\'m not sure how calm I would of been.


Well, I guess Flashman didn\'t get his power back on yet. Hope on the east coast is fine.
