This site pisses me of sometimes (Rant)

Hi to all the regular users here and first of all my apologies,

I am really fed up with the talentless hacks that are part of this forum/website,

I contantly see berating comments about peoples miniatures really slaging them off,
yet when you take a look the the persons gallery who left the comment whoa theres a suprise no miniatures, whats the matter afraid of a little constructive critisim yourself,

I recieved one of these the other day, for one of my latest submissions, please take a look,

Now i know what you are thinking, not really a harsh comment and i agree but when you have spent hours on a figure and it turns out to be your best so far you are really proud of it, so why should we allow people to bring us down,

Comments i have recieved about this mini in the forums were excellent and i was able to learn from them none of them were harsh,

In a month or so i will look back and see this miniature and think its ok but not great at the moment i think it is awsome (because it is my best work so far)

Just to let you know im not a whiney kid, (no offence meant to any whiney kids here) im actually 25 and i love this hobby, and i have made some great online friends here i would like to think,

Good rant, BTW. On a public forum like this there\'s always going to be a few people who say stuff like that and think it\'s funny. And you\'re right, they don\'t post anything because they can dish it out but can\'t take it.

About the mini, the only thing I would say is work on your photography. You can get a whole extra point if the photo is good. I love the standing stones display but you might want to mock up a light box. That will help everything look better. The painting is good. You\'ve got talent and I think your next one will put you in the hi 6 range if we can get the lighting right. Don\'t stress. Head to the freak bar and have a drink. That will help.

hehe, careful here. I know quite some number of talented hacks that leave berating comments, and equal number of talented hacks who do not post much (or et all).

This particular comment is utterly pointless and must be treated as such. Why does it upset you if you and the rest of us here understand that this particular comment is pointless? Just ignore it and move on.

Problem with reaction or overreaction to comments like this is that people who actually want to leave a comment that they believe to be constructive stop doing it. I know, that there are certain people whose works I will not be commenting because they become upset way to easily and way out of proportion.

Keep in mind that 99.9% of posters here have nothing against you personally and the rest should simply be ignored.

As far as constructive criticism goes. This particular mini is way too far. I can get overall impression and extrapolate the quality but you either have to take picture of the mini itself (closeup) or the diorama, better both as separate images.

I\'ve sometimes wanted to see what snarky comments a snarky commentor has left on other people\'s minis.
I know I can browse by \"my comments\" but I wish I could brows by \"xxx\'s comments\".

Well Its like this my friend, If your going to swim in a public swimming pool you can be sure someones going to want to pee in it..

Same goes for a public forum..someones going to want to be an asshat and say something mean because they can.. its the fact of hiding behind an online identity and a computor screen.

My advice is ignore it or thank the person for their constructive coments and move on.. knowing your the better person.

I can understand and sympathise with Iain\'s point of view.
However, Supervike, Finn18 & I trawl through hundreds of comments on a daily basis. We have a common behaviour in that we do not delete comments posted unless they are really crude, rude and insulting. We do encounter some Bitchy comments but there are a great deal of people who have received them as well as yourself, Iain

You are however not alone in feeling as if you are being attacked in comments and while the number of commentators who do not have galleries seems to have risen once again due to the start of School Holidays, (there\'s a surprise) there are one or two people who have posted comments which are less than pleasant, who themselves are \"respected\" painters with Galleries on here.
In fact there are some Hard commentators who have the courage of their convictions to openly state what they see \"wrong\" on a mini, This I find far more honest than the gushing and effusive praise I encounter which is being heaped upon some high minis.

Non of the moderators want to set ourselves up as a tinpot dictator (Ok well I do really) and start deleting comments simply because we do not like the tone of the Comments.

So my suggestion is that if you find yourself on the receiving end of what you consider an iinsulting comment, contact one of the Mods by PM, we will look at the comments and discuss between ourselves and respond back to you.

It\'s a hard thing to put yourself out there to be judged, and those of us who do so for an artistic endeavour are likely to be of a sensitive temperment. I have found what you said about to be very true for myself - the first few weeks after I finish a mini, I\'m often quite taken with it and negative criticism hits much harder. I\'ve found dealing with lowball votes and the like to be less difficult if I don\'t post a mini until it\'s been finished for a while and I\'m not as focused on it.

Even if there isnt something nice I can really say about a miniature when ranking it, I always try and end on a compliment about the work, there has to be something nice about it.

And thats where so many people seem to miss out, they just cant say things about other people.

even if its just, oh, the red on the armour plate is nice or whatever, just make something up you retards.

Seondly, having looked at the comment, all it says is that they guy who wrote it is an arse. It\'s not critique, it says nothing about the mini and serves no purpose whatsoever other than a lame attempt at a pointless insult. I can see why you wouldn\'t want it there as it may influence others and, if it was me, I\'d either PM the guy and politely ask why he wrote it or PM a mod and ask for it to be removed. Of course, you could just ignore it but if it was a comment on one of mine I\'d want it justified or removed.

Incidently, I think it\'s quite a nice version of the Warrior Priest (but mine\'s better :twisted: )

I\'m assuming it was meant as a joke, but even at that one in poor taste.
What I CAN say is the photography isn\'t the best, although the mini itself seems like a roit praper job! So don\'t sweat, after all, you\'re still rewarded with that sense of achievment! No one can take that away from you

Some really good advise here, and some not so good,

Look as i said comments like this are harsh, i never said that it upset me! it makes me a tiny bit dishartened but then i look at the Certificate with my name on that says \'WINNER\' and i laugh,

What annoys me is the Harsher comments that are left for other people believe me i have very broad shoulders and i can take the hits but some people cant!

@Torn Blue Sky - I know most of the asshole born everyminute!! plus taking a better picture this weekend.

@Ebonbudda - Im not looking for praise or comments i get enough of those from my Girlfriend and family, i agree that it maybe a joke but its really pointless! And im NOT going to stop painting and posting here, comments like this,just spur me on to do better,
