@ Becca - At least it\'s not grad school yet. :) I don\'t really have much of a single excuse any more...except for work and the workshop I\'m taking. And the odd project here or there.

Summer...yes...I recall the concept of having a summer off. :D

aaah....I miss beaches too. I guess having lived in Hawaii, I got spoiled. Over here, they usually consider a bit of mud next to the lake a \"beach.\" lol The first time I went with a few friends to a \"beach\" here, I thought they were joking.

Next time you go to the beach, build a sandcastle for me. ^_^

ok! but granted our beaches have NO waves...its like a great big bathtub, with some whale splashing miles off shore....tiny tiny waves....

for example

(dont mind the dude we were taking pictures of funny people/touristis...) it was a very busy picture day!

Wow...you aren\'t kidding! I\'ve seen wading pools with bigger waves. lol I used to go to the beach either on the South or North Shore over on Oahu. South can get a few bigger waves occasionally, while the North Shore is...well...during the winter they\'re huge. Not all that unusual for one of the beaches there to have 30+ ft sets.

And you know, they have folks like that guy in the pic over in Hawaii too! :)

i think my favorite picture of the day was a grandfather teaching his grandson how to skim board...very funny, very funny indeed.

i think we took like 50 pictures, granted 25 of them were us...but there still were some weird tourists.

and yes, the only time we get waves are during hurricanes. and then they close the beaches.

There\'s some pics of Oahu\'s beaches on this website: http://www.resortislands.com/oahu/

The one for Waimea Bay is interesting. Imagine waves that go OVER that rock you see people standing on. That\'s what happens when the really big winter sets start coming in. And that\'s usually just with winter storms, not hurricanes. :D

:wow::wow::wow::wow:

so pretty!

and bigger than that rock eh? i think the biggest waves we had (that i remember) was either with hurrican ivan...just happened...or hurrican andrew... in 1994...like 15 ft or so...

Yeah...can you believe I LEFT that to come live in Seattle? ???

Yup...waves bigger than that. I would say an average winter on the North Shore will have 20 something footers hitting that area at least once during the season. Really neat stuff.

About beaches...

I\'ve only ever been to the shore only a few times in my life, and while the Atlantic may not offer the best of waves, it\'s got something that I\'ve never heard of on other beaches... wild ponies! I\'ve been to Assateague Island a few times, and the ponies are everywhere. I guess having been a horse lover all my life just makes me think this is the best feature for a beach, rather than wave size ;) I think I have an old pic of me and some friends at Assateague Island, but I\'d have to find it again.

;) Just gotta watch out for those \"beach apples\"! lol

Hahahaha...somehow the idea of horses and sandy beaches don\'t mix in my head. There\'s enough stuff to avoid when putting a towel down to catch some rays, IMO. :D

This thread seemed like the perfect place to see if I\'m doing my signature right. I can\'t find anyplace to view it in my user panel (please tell me if there\'s such a place and I\'m just blind...)

Edit: Hey, look! It worked! Horray.
