I'm thinking of doing some thunderwolfs to my space wolves army. I have already made a wolf lord.
Warhammer_Space_Wolf_by_Paandrik.jpg

I will make 3 more thunderwolfs with replaceable heads to get some variety when I make the cast wolfs.

I haven't begun with the third one and If you are interested I can make a tutorial how I make my thunderwolves.

A penny for your thoughts.

ps: is the pictures to big and if they are I will be sure to fix that next time.

Big-ass wolf!:O But I think the paintjob could use some more working on a great sculpt like that.

I quite like these! I wonder, would you be able to take a comparison shot of one of these and a juggernaught?

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Your sculpts are good but the paintjob isn't. You could dilute a bit more your paint, it will take you a bit more time to paint your minis but you will get a much better effect.

Too bad...

Well, I'm definitely interested in buying a cast or two from you when these are done. ^^

ok then It has to be the ones I'm on right now.... don't think I can make a cast on the lord. to many holes and whatnot.

Already working on my own lord so that's perfectly alright. That was one of the reasons why I was wondering about the size comparison, my lord is mounted on a converted juggernaut.

nice sculpts you got there!
as for the paint job i agree you should dilute your paint to get a smoother result, but the colors on the wolf are actually pretty nice and well placed, only not really smooth. maybe try practice on that it will take a bit longer to finish but the result should be nicer.

wow, good sculpt. the painting is quite rough though. i agree with watering downthe paints a bit more, try to be a tad neater too. it looks ok on the wolf (you can get away with it on organic things) but the sm needs to be neater (the straight lines etc show up any wonky brush work)

i am sure they will look impressive when fielded as a unit

Thunderwolf body is done,
picture.php

The tail became quite big but it looked good, and the claws Is a pain in the a*s, 4 claw on every paw (can't quite see it from this angle) and they brake all the time while manicured (sort of).

Now its only the head left, and the head will be separate so you can choose from a selection of 2 or 3 heads, that you also can tilt to your own satisfaction.
Well thats the plan anyway, now we must see if it works.

anyway the sculpt is really awesome! too bad the paintwork dont quite make it justice tho. as said, try watering the colors a bit more.

If the small details are giving you trouble, try doing them with green stuff instead of the super sculpy. It will hold the detail better, and if you let it cure for a short while before you attempt to sculpt, it will be waaay easier to deal with.

You can also pop the super sculpy into the fridge for 10-15 minutes to harden it up before you do the small stuff.

finished! but...

But I think if I should take of the armor or maybe take them of and make sprue so you can choose If you want the armor or not.
And before I make the mold I will make some last minute adjustments to the armor and wolf.
I will make the mold 9 tonight Gmt: +1.
So if you have any thoughts or if you want something changed so speak your mind, you have 4 hours left.

Go!

I have made up my mind. I have taken of the armor. It looked better that way, maybe that suck at sculpting "hard" materials.

Fail

The first mold can only describe as an utterly and totality disaster. nothing worked and that did worked would become useless in the end. For starters, I was dumb enough to take the wolf out of the mold and because of its pelt, it couldn't go back to the exact place so the second part of the mold went into the first one, destroying it. then I made a new half and just in case I made a small line of clay around the wolf so it wouldn't do the same again, but I had to little silicone/rubber but I used the other mold as filling, and it worked pretty well. so I tested the mold today.... And the wolf came 2 mm thicker then It should have because I tock It out, and some air pockets that totalled the wolf. the air pockets can I take away but the fact is that the wolf was now to fat for the legs to fit and it didn't look good. I have ordered some more silicone but they were out for the moment and to top it of the wolfs hind leg sort of exploded. Complete Failure. So I will come back when I get more silicone, so for the moment this thread will be more or less on hiatus.

nice looking stuff mate. i would keep some armor around the feet at least to help connect it with the metal on the rider.

Well I have tried and failed.... but I'm no good at making "hard stuff", may buy plastic card in a near future, but not now..... I am broke, till the 25th.

but now I have got my self some good sculpting tools, before I used things in my surrounding, like needles and knifes, but now I got new tools and a new sculpting spirit!

As you can see I dropped the "Replaceable heads" because it was a pain in the ass to make a mold of. still have to chop of the head, mauling arm and tail when making the mold.

Next on the agenda is the tongue ,head and tail, and last paws and claws.
