Timing

Is everything, I know.

What I\'m courious about is what other folks use to tell themselves that they have been sitting at the mini table to long - I have two timers - a can of coke and the number of clean water cells left in my ice tray brush wash basin - when the coke is empty and there is no more clean water - I\'m done for the night.

Well normally my time is limited by some external factor, (read work) but if I ever have the luxury of a long session, I know I\'ve had enough when my back starts to ache and I can\'t focus on the mini any more... I use a similar method to tell me when I\'ve had enough to drinklol

My \"timers\" vary. Some times it\'s when my daughter shows up; other times it\'s when my back start getting tight. Then there\'s some days/nights where I\'m painting, stop and look at the mini for 15 minutes because I\'m uncertain how to proceed. If that happens, then it\'s time to break away for awhile.

Usually when I feel a migrane coming on... that used to ruin things quite a bit, but then again I spent a whole afternoon painting one model with no breaks... and I still painted bad...

But since those past 2 years, I spaced my painting out, which also lets the paint dry too... Silly me. :drunk:

For me all my stuff is out in my room, so i can sit and do 10mins or a few hours at any time, but i rarely paint over about 3-4 hours in one sitting. I prefer to do half hour bursts about 4 times a day.

When the bum goes to sleep is normaly a good clue for me but I tend to paint for as long as possible once I get going because I am notoriously bad at plonking myself in a chair and getting started on a paint job.

Since moving into a house where I can\'t smoke indoors I have lots more painting breaks now though. In the good old days I could happily sit and do an 18 or so hour session.

The apartment I\'m currently living in is smoke-free, so I\'ve cut way down on the habit (down to about half-a-pack a day). I get to painting, lose track of time and find that I\'m not having cravings very much anymore. At this rate I\'m going to quit smoking completely by the end of the year.

My goal is to paint one color a day. That way things eventually get done. I try to limit myself to one color every half hour. Any more and things are too wet for me to accurately see what I have done. And only two minis at a time or nothing would be completed.

:( when I have to go to the \"little witches room\"

I do take small breaks while painting to keep from stiffing up..snack breaks, let the dog out breaks, see what the cat knocked over breaks..etc. ;)lol

I dont paint a mini in one sitting, for example on a WM warjack I normally do all the skeleton metallics in one sit, then do all the different armour plates and details in separate sittings.

Simarily to how James Sequiera\'s timing methods, I paint one section of the miniature. But if I don\'t have anything else to do outside of painting, usually I\'ll keep painting.
